You're probably going to have to post up in the Wanted section of my350z.com.

Hey Dave, so after all of the joy of new found responsiveness with this mod.. what do the rubber pucks do.. are they mounting to an existing bracket, acting as physical vibration buffers or are they more of a free-standing dampening mechanisim... ? Shed some light on this for me.. they look like they would be located in an area not being used as part of the mounting hardware.. not sure though of actual locality under the car of the extended down pipes in reference to the OEM pipe...

just curious bro..

The pucks are attached to the y-pipe and nothing else. I'm very certain their purpose is to reduce NVH through the exhaust system. The VQ35HR is a notoriously buzzy engine and magazines say the sound and feel of the VQ35HR is like a coffee grinder. The 07/08 G35 sedans have the pucks on the y-pipe as well on each muffler. The HR Z's don't have the pucks on the muffler.

Which leads to believe another source of HR y-pipes might be the 07/08 G35 sedan crowd. They "should" be the same part number. You should probably confirm this with Tony at Riverside Infiniti.

Thanks and thanks I've never seen the underside of an X to know if they have the same exhaust layout. I would assume they do since people have put aftermarket catbacks on the X's. Does your stock y-pipe look just like the one I have pictured in post #1?

sure does... I think they're the same pipe with or without AWD. I also checked out the Y pipe on an 07/08 sedan.. sure does LOOK the same as the 07 Z pipe you have... at TWICE THE PRICE as that of the Z!?!?! 735.00 samoleans for that bad boy!?!?! dang.. they sure do like thier parts!!

You should add the 06 air box cover to complete the upgrade.. end to end.. then you WILL have the Frankenstein of Infiniti's! I really like what it did for my 04x. I'll be doing this 07 Z HR Y-pipe, 06 sedan mid-pipe and replacement 04 rear muffler (old and rusty) upgrade after the first of the year.. winter's comin' around the corner here in Central Ohio.. so I'll wait until early spring to drop the cash and do it all at the same time.. that should complete the jazz for my X.. for now.

later on bud...

The 06 airbox is next. Right now I'm researching the 07/08 Z HR OEM headers with cats. Clearance shouldn't be a problem, but I don't know about the bolt pattern to the head. I would assume they're the same. The headers obviously would improve flow, they're heavy gauge stainless so heat retention would be much better (a good thing for exhaust flow) and the 07/08 HR cats have better flow as well. I like using as many OEM parts as possible because I know they'll bolt up perfectly every time and people sell them for cheap

The velocity stack is the same, but the airbox is entirely different.
