Good to hear you like the spacer. Does your car pull like mine or more now between gears? I wish I could of made the dyno day, but I will be at the next one. How much did you get your reflash for?

Engine covers:

The 350Z engine cover fits with any Motordyne plenum spacer on any car.
The 1/2" spacer will allow the engine cover to fit on most sedans but not on the coup.

Hi guys,

Just got back from the dyno day and as promised I would report the spacer results on the 05 6MT new lower plenum.

The car was dynoed once in the morning but couldn't be immediatly redynoed with the spacer due to so many other cars waiting to dyno. So the back to back pre/post dynos were performed later at the end of the day.

In short, the results as measured on SAE corrected, Back to Back dynos, each with ECU resets, same atmoshperic conditions, same engine temperatures and without removing the car from the dyno, it showed no change in performance. On VLEO8181's 05 6MT G35 Coup the results were ZIP, ZERO, NADA!

I will post the plots when I can get the Dynapack data files imported into Excel.

VLEO8181's current mods are an HKS exhaust and INJEN long tube CAI.

AzSi22 and Scobybri,
You both had completely different results?... What other mods (if any) were on the cars you dynoed?

As I indicated before - AzSi22 had a "Z" Tube and a K&N filter as his only mods. Other than a grounding kit that was it. I witnessed all 6 of his runs runs (3 without the spacer, and 3 with). They are exactly as he reported.

Has the crawford plenum had these results? My guess is that it would do little more than the stock manifold was already doing as seen with the spacer results for the 298hp motor.

Thanks Lou,

Others have reported that their aftermarket plenums have not always done so well with the long tube CAI's. I have been wondering if that could have anything to do with it.

Vleo8181 said he would like to do another dyno run soon. We could put on a Z tube and test that hypothesis.

No doesn't pull as hard (midrange) as yours or DaveO - the launch is real strong and the high end is real good but I'm definitely lacking mid-range. I wish I could get more TQ without a torque converter. However, it does pull much stronger all the way through the rmp than it did when you were in the car last.

ECU was $535, I don’t know why but TS charged me tax!!! (base price was $495) Technically your not suppose to charge tax for service, only for parts. Since there are no parts I'm not sure why they charged tax, but I didn't contest it.

Hope to see you at the next event. When are you going to Qual Comm next? I'm not challenging you to a race, but would like to go sometime.

Holy crap. Nearly 10 pages and a plethora of plenum power propositioning, and still nobody successfully conducted a true 3rd party with witnesses dyno test for BASE (no mods) 05 models.

As was broached earlier in this thread, somebody needs to get these damn parts tested on '05 models. For instance, I would like to see back-to-back results on '05 6MT vehicles for plenum, cats, mid-pipe, etc. Headers would be difficult due to install time, but do-able. I know I'm not the only one wondering what $500-2000 in aftermarket parts will buy me in performance for my '05 6MT.

Thumbs up Motordyne Engineering 3/8" Spacer Install

Ok so I've had the spacer on for about a week and over 120miles with it.

Install:
Honestly fairly easy. Before I put it on I was imagining that I would drop something into the intact area and I was soo paranoid and scared to do the install that I was considering getting it "professionally" done.

Well, one day I had time and I did the install myself. Took like 45min I guess. Not too shabby honestly. All by myself too. The instructions say that it will be easier with 2 people so one can hold the plenum up while the other slides in the spacer. Well, I didn't unbolt the TB and just propped it up with my Z tube same as you would propping a hood with the hood stand. Worked just fine.
I carefully laid a clean cotton towel over the intake openings after I opened her up and went to work. Everything went down smoothly. I didn't have a torque wrench so I used a hand screwdriver with a tip that connects to a socket. Worked perfectly. I was careful not to over torque using my hands. Simple as that. I did the tightening sequence like 6 times though just to make sure. I will retighten now that it's been a week. Put her back together and it idles same as any other G.

Impressions:
Well first time out I didn't really notice anything. Honestly. I wasn't too sure if it was working. But I had no leak and everything was working just fine. Also, before install I thought that I had to give it some breakin miles say ~100 before it was really felt. I reset the ECU as I do with all my mods. Just from reset the car feels more awake and peppier. Now after 120+ miles I DO FEEL A DIFFERENCE/GAIN! Like someone posted somewhere else it's not neck snapping but you can definitely feel and appreciate it. Worth my $160

The throttle does feel a bit more responsive IMO and once the engine moves into the middle/upper range it starts pulling harder/faster. Remember, not insanely but you do see it and feel it.

*In my sense I do feel a gain. When I didn't have the spacer I would feel and literally see my tachometer when WOT. Pre-spacer it would move nicely from a stop and when the tach reached 5-6.5krpm it would be "tame". Like rrRRRRRrr. It seemed to "just get by in that range" instead of accelerating more in that range. Post-spacer in that similar situation was better. Now with miles on the spacer I doesn't have that "letting off feel" in that rpm range. As the dyno graph on ME shows it does just keep ramping up in feel. I love winding it out. It feels like it goes faster as revs climb.

Full auto trans mode is a bit more responsive with spacer and really rockets. Manual mode is awesome as well. As we know our first gear is short but now with spacer its shorter. I can't equate this with the manuals but for us AT's its still a great feeling. In MM 1st it really rockets upwards after say 3krpm? Just shoots up there.

I think that's the end of the review.

*Hasn't anybody seen my other review of the 05 Z susp? I was hoping I'd get more qstns and replies to it. Guess not.

In a recent post regarding the new Iso Thermal spacers you wrote:

"Actually, I don't believe any of the usual upper plenum mods work on the revup engine. Angled, cast or whatever.

The Revup lower plenum was re-designed such that there is no longer a weak point that can be taken advantage of. Nissan fixed the pressure drop problem above runners 1&2. So there is nothing to fix with the usual plenum mods...

It will take new thinking to get more juice out of this engine.

Tony,

When I purchased the 3/8" spacer, at a cost of $187.15 and 1 1/2 hours installation time, in April this year you indicated it produces at least 5-10 HP at the wheels. The above statements seems to confirm it does not for '05 6MT engines. I have an '05 6MT with the 298 HP engine with no other mods and have had the spacer on for 6 months now with no noticeable gain in power. I do not plan on adding any other mods to this car.

I have experienced good customer service with you during my purchase of the spacer. It seems however that the spacer did not work out for the '05 6MT engines as you advertised. Please PM me regarding my concerns.

I'll take care of you Hensta!
My prior assumption was indeed incorrect. But I've got a new mod for the Revup engine now that produces more than 3X the gains of a spacer on any car.

Hang tight for details.
