DIY: Radar Detector with Mikes Mount and Invisicord Install Guide
i've got an installation guide and tutorial on installing a radar detector like the V1, Escort, etc with a Mikes Mount and wiring it using an Invisicord located on my blog myg35mods.com.

Thanks for the DIY!
Just a heads up to anyone thinking about buying an Escort 9500ix. Great radar detector, however it rarely picks up GPS when I use mike's mount. It seems that there is too much (mirror, mount, roof) blocking the GPS antenna on the radar detector.

Not sure about Mike's mount, but my thread has links to other options:

I have a Mike Mount with an Escort x50 radar detector. Functionally it works fine, but the way the the escorts connect to the Mikes Mount makes the detector bounce around alot. For example with a suction cup windshield mount, There are 2 suction cups and the front windshield that hold the detector stable. With the Mikes Mount you basically remove the windshield as a stabilizer. There is another mount out there. It is called a Blend Mount, same concept as Mikes Mount, but it has an additional stabilizer. It is expensive tho.
OP, i had a question, so i have the inisicord in the mail and i just looked at the cable of the rear view mirror. i have 3 wires goin in; grey, black and brown.

The brown wire is in pin 6, and the grey wire is in pin 10. of the connector.
I know the ground will go to ground, but what about the 12 v? do you know?

on my 07 coupe the black invisicord wire gets pushed into the spot where the black wires goes into the harness. then the yellow invisicord wire into the spot where the black/pink wire went in. so:
yellow invisicord TO black/pink mirror
black invisicord TO black mirror
start with black to black. then just try each of the others and see which gives you power. you can always just pull it out and retry the other.
you can also check out invsicord's site - they have a forum, example guides for each make/model and the owner is very helpful if you need to email him.
good luck!

I've had this wired up using this walkthrough for a few months now, but I had another question. Using the directions in this walkthrough, the power to the radar detector is constantly on. When I had my 350z before, one of the wires ran the power mirror but not as a constant so it would shut off when the car would shut off. Now, recently, I've left the detector on and not driven the car for a couple days and I've killed my battery. Any ways, I was wondering if anyone had run into this and used a voltmeter already to chase down which one is a power that comes on with the ignition? I could probably figure it out (and may have to) but figured I would ask first. Thanks!
