Official Simplicity In Sound G35 Install :)
First off, sorry for the bad pics, my lack of skills and crappy camera leaves me no choice. I am sure plenty of other pics will follow soon!
Anyway, i recently had the chance to work on member drsifu's beautiful Lambo yellow G35 Coupe. It has become my official show car so to speak.
The goal for this car is something i have long dreamed of doing -- an install that can get respect on the show circuit, yet still keep to my principle of simplicity, elegant, and classy.
i was unrestricted by the need to preserve trunk space, so the only goal is that it looks nice and sounds good
so lets get started with the pics!
the entire stack all the way through the car has been painted two tone black and yellow. I molded the double din finisher so the eclipse nav unit can sit pretty flush...again, sorry for the bad pics:
here are some more shots of the painted center console
DLS Ultimate Iridium 6.3 3 way components makes up the front stage. The midbass is sealed in a fiberglass cup in the door, and the midrange and tweeter are flushed into the factory kicks:
Note DLS logo on the stock grille
the DLS subbass controller is hidden away in the center console:
moving on to the trunk. Starting off with a floating amp rack idea suggested by the customer, this is where we ended up
two metal plates were welded to the stillen strut brace, and then the amp rack bolted to it. The crossovers curves out of the floor, holding two xovers each side. the image dynamics idmax sub sits in a recessed curved well in the middle, and the massive DLS A7 5 channel amp floats above. the install features all black wiring, passed through neatly, parts painted to match the exterior, and black vinyl floor. here are the pics from all the angles:
there are a bank of LEDS sunk into the back panel to project light forward to cast a yellow glow on everything...but i will wait for night time to take and post those pics
so far it sounds great even without tuning, and in my mind, my goals are completely achieved
here are two behind the scenes pics showing some of the work not seen, first a fully dampened door with the fiberglass door pod holding the iridium midbass, and secondly, all the wires behind the amp are wire tied and secured down to the floor:

well, well, well....look at what we've got here boys and girls
the Bing touch has graciously been bestowed upon my car.
my goal with this project has always been to create a simple look with hints of custom touches that adds flare and sophistication. having been to many car shows, there's a tendency for people to load up their trunk with tons of fiberglass, monitors, subs, amps, capacitors, etc. i thought i'd try something new.
so the one person I knew who had a philosophy of creating simple and clean installs was the one I turned to. I simply gave him the idea of the floating amp rack and gave him freedom to create his magic. the result you see is WELL ABOVE my expectation. The curved fiverglass sub ring and fiberglass xover pods were all Bing's idea. I was expecting for them to just be flush with the vinyl'd MDF. So those pieces, along with the paint creates that "flare" I wanted.
the install is amazing. if you are in the Bay Area and what a quality install and great prices, this is your man. If you look at the work, it'll be obvious I'm not just saying it cause he told me to.
the guy keeps in contact with you throughout the whole step. i've chatted with him through IM and called him when I had concerns.
as far as the painted interior pieces, i wanted to create a warm environment, again, simple with hints of flare (got to think of a better word). I think the work turned out great. i do have thoughts about what it would have looked like if everything was yellow, but i think it looks great as it is now.
the pictures Bing posted don't do the system and interior justice I will hopefully get better pics up tonight.
and to think, this project started with an sketch on scratch paper.

awesome install, wish shops down here can do something like that... sigh... cant trust anyone with my car anymore...
is it hard to dynamate the doors? i plan on doing this myself, did you also dynamat the outerside of the door? behind the glass? also what difference does it make in terms of sound quality?
great job on the install...

i am waiting for it to get dark to get some shots of the LED glow hehe...a few more hours.
dynamatting the door isnt hard, no behind the glass isnt dampened, that would be n ineasne amount of work. just go slow, use small pieces, and make sure oyu dont cover any moving parts
NYC, sure you wanna fly me out to new york again? haha
