will a bose equipped G work with a non bose Headunit?

Hey guys, my CD Changer broke with the CD ERR FO. I have a 2003 G with bose and someone is selling a 2004.5 non bose unit... will it work with my car? will the amp turn on and power my speakers?

Not really... not without a crap load of work.

The non-bose HU has a built in amp that directly powers the Bose speakers. The Bose HU has no internal amp but instead sends a flat signal to the outboard/external Bose amp... and the external Bose amp powers the speakers.

You'd have to try and flatten/de-amplify the signal leaving the non-bose HU in order for your external Bose amp not to freak out. Or you'd have to bypass your Bose amp... either way it's a LOT of work for a crappy end result.

How much are they selling this non-Bose HU for?

If you truely want to go this route, your best bet will be to find the audio wiring diagram for the non-bose sound system and try and replicate it. In other words, take the input wires going into the external Bose amp and determine which output wires they should be connect to. This would take the external Bose amp out of the equation completely, allowing the new non-bose HU to directly power the stock speakers.

Just as a warning, it's going to be ugly, and the new deck could easily die just like the old one (they didn't FIX this problem, they just give you a new deck and hope the new doesn't die again).
