Audio Amps Crossover question

I do not have much knowledge on things audio so I thought I would ask my question here.

I have MB Quart QSD216 in the front doors powered by a JL 300/2. I used two Alpine MRD-500s powering two Infinity Kappa Perfect 12DVQs in a custom fibergalss box in back. I also went with Boston Acoustic 6.5 Pro Series for rear fill in the back armrests, powered by an Alpine MRD-F540 bridged from 4-channel to 2 (I am thinking about some BA 6x9 in the rear deck for some mid bass, but worry about blocking the bass as the 6x9 hole are currently empty and are perfect for letting the bass into the car. If I go that route, I will have to cut into the rear deck lid to make a port into the car as the 6x9 holes would be filled). My question is, for the front 6.5 and rear 6.5, what is a good crossover point. I started at 60Hz for the front MBQuarts, but with the volume up, the started cracking, I turned it up to 90Hz and that helped, but again I hit some crackling with the bass turned up. So, I am going to try around 150-200Hz. For the rear, I was thinking a little lower, like 100Hz, as it is more for fill and I will fade to the front for a front soundstage and the rears will not get as much of a signal. Does anyone here with good audio knowledge have a suggestion for what might be more ideal? And is it a good idea to get the 6x9 and use my 540 4-channel to power the rear 6.5 and the 6x9?

Pics of how it looks so far are posted on imagestation on my sig. Thanks for any input

Re: Audio Amps Crossover question

You dont have any bass boost on the JL amp do you? If so , turn that off. You should be able to run the 6.5's up front down to 80 - 100 Hz and let your subs take over from there. But since you said they crackle, I would just keep playin with the Xover to find the freq where they dont do that anymore. With the 8"/4"/1" 3 way set up, I am using 65Hz, 250Hz, and 2500Hz (or whatever is in the component xover for the tweets).
As for adding 6x9's, that will further pull the stage towards the back. I wouldnt do it. The pressure from the 12's will also cause the cones to have more of an uncontrolled movement also.
Since the rear armrest 6.5s are just in a baffle with no real separation from the front and rear soundwave, I wouldnt expect much midbass from them. The BA pros have a pretty solid surround which will help control the speaker, but it is my bet that you will want those Xover'ed about where the fronts are.

Good luck

Re: Audio Amps Crossover question

It sounds like :
(a) your WAY overpowering the 6.5 components in the front.
75X4 maybe...300X2 overkill. The midbass should play down to 80 hz easily.
(b) Add dynamat to the interrior door skin.
Also you didn't say what head unit your using...if your amps are using the speaker out-puts from the factory radio you'll probably never get a clean enough signal to stand that much amplification. And hopefully you ran new speaker wire to all your new drivers. If not, start there,
As for all that cra.. your puttiing in the rear deck..forget it!
Your sondstage should be forward, high and vocals dead center.
Good luck!

Re: Audio Amps Crossover question

Thanks for the input and advice . That is my next step (when my wife recovers from the current bill the install cost), to put in the double din unit talked about elsewhere for around $300 and a new HU. I am currently researching a good double din HU. I want enough pre-outs, 3 or 4, and some inputs to accept the steering wheel controls if possible. Along with MP3 and in dash 6 cd player in the $1000 range, is that asking too much?
