Last night while flipping through the stations, I got to Z-100 (100.3 in the NYC area) and the radio display was scrolling the artist and the name of the song as it was playing. I'm sure of you have seen this before, but I never have and thought it was pretty cool.

 

sounds like your Z station updated their equipment. KMEL 106.1 over here in the bay started doing the same thing. If you notice to the left of the display it says "RDS", I forgot what it stands for, but I guess that's the name of the system. pretty cool huh? Now you know the artist and name of the song all the time.

I noticed the RDS. A few other stations also had it, but all they did was display the name of the station.

lol yea I noticed the exact same thing on z100, yea they updated their stuff to rds. Funny thing is in europe all stations had this technology 5 years ago.

Is there anyway to set the scrolling to move faster and also take out the radio station during the scroll?

 

Thanks! I thought I was crazy - I was also listening to Z100 last night and noticed the artist and song on the dial. A friend told me many stations across the country do this. The other statons call letters show up but Z100 sems to be the only one in the area with this cool feature.

When we were in the LA area, we had scrolling ADS in my car. That actually ticked me off. It seemed like an invasion of privacy. It’s my car, I don’t want your stupid scrolling ads in it. So I switched to CDs for the rest of the trip.

yea the same thing happend to me too and I was wonderin what was goin on

 

If I remember correctly, it means that station is transmitting a digital signal. I think if you press the RPT(disp) button you can switch from the channel number to channel name to artist name to song title and back to channel number.

Scrolling adds. Figures. Clearchannel gets the capability to do something like XM (song title, etc)
and the ADVERTISE WITH IT.

If my stations in AZ start running ads I will seriously consider sat radio. I am the type of person that will boycott places that advertise in my car. I consider it an invasion of my privacy. But that may be just me…

In the Bay area they also started doing it with Wild 949 a couple days ago. It's pretty cool but doesnt always work.
