I have a coupe and was wondering how you had your set ups? What did you have in the front, back, amps used, loc, eq's, etc...? Thanks.

 

when i had my eclipse. this is the system i had:

Eclipse av8132 hu/screen
Eclipse 5962 cd changer in dash
Zapco Competition C2k-4.0x for mids/highs
JL Audio 1000/1 amp for subs
JL 12w7 sub
MB Quart QSD 216 up front
MB Quart DTC169 for rear fill

Great system, but my new one will be better...

In the coupe, this is what i would do if i wanted to use Quarts:

LOC: Peripheral Ven4

Front comps: QSD 216 6.5" mids/1" tweets

Rear fill: I would not bother in the coupe (can weaken the sound stage)

Amp for mids/highs: Depends on your budget. Look for something that puts out about 150x2@4 ohms. The Quarts shine with a lot of power. Zapco is excellent and can be found used for reasonable prices. PPI, JL Audio, and TRU Technology are also great.

Sub: JL 10w7

Amp for Sub: JL 1000/1

EQ: You might not need one, but if you want one, then check out audiocontrol or zapco.

 

By the way...the system i described is pretty pricey. Not sure what your budget is or what exaclty you are looking for with this post. Hopefully what was written was helpful.

I need to upgrade my components as one of my tweeter blew...

Before I have rear-fills but I am thinking of not using any rear fills and just bridge my amp to the front components since the coupe interior space is small...

Thanks for the info. You're right. Those components are pricey!! How much better do you think the MB Quart RSC 216 2-way components compares to the stock Bose front speakers?

 

I have the QSD 216 in front and went without rear fill for 2-3 months. I then decided to try it out with rear fill and use cheaper speakers as I did not need much fill (I was thinking that way). So I got the Boston Acoustic 6.5 Pro Series. And I was very glad I did. I really like the improvement they made. I fade to the front at a 1 or 2 setting, but the rear fills seemed to add a lot of mid bass dynamic that I felt was missing (in hindsight). Also, if you do not want to pay the high prices of the QSD, I think the PSD 216 is about the next best mid/highs I have ever heard (they are very bright, which I like in a component) and you can get them for the high $100-low $200 range, maybe less.

for rear fill, i would just use the stock speakers...it s a waste of money imo unless you have people sitting back there who demand great sound form those speakers, which is unlikely. The PSD 216 set is very good. If you are considering other brands, then check out rainbow audio at www.rainarc.com. I think their speakers are excellent as well if not better in many respects.

You can power a set of QSD's with a jl audio 300/2. That would give it 150x2 of clean power. A zapco amp would be my amp of choice. Any zapco is great. But having about 150 per channel for the quarts is necessary for great midbass. Otherwise they will seem to be lacking the "punch" that other speakers may produce with lower wattages. The QSD's are great though.

 

I am using the JL Audio 300/2 for the front, but went all Alpine for the subs and rear fill. Using a MRD-F540 for the rear fill and two MRD-M500 for my two Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1DVQ subs. If money was less of a factor, a "dream" system for me would be:a 2 13W7 with 2 JL Audio 1000/1, QSD216 front and rear with either a JL 450/4 or 2 JL 300/2 and then two 8W7 (built along the top sides of the rear seat) powered by 2 JL 250/1. But that would require a new alternator, another battery, adding in all the wires and installation, it was much to expensive.
