Questions with 8500 x50 (screen messages) ????

I've had this radar for about a year with no issues or concerns BUT

last night driving home I noticed the screen blinking with a message
that stated system calibration? Then after about 3 minutes it flashed
service required?

I turned off power and waited 30 seconds and turned it back on
with the same message appearing (service required).

Then I thought WTF is this. So I turned off/unplugged the smart cord waited
1 minute and plugged it back in/turned it back on and all is
well again.

Now, I spoke with tech support and there telling me that it's possible
my car (even though ignition is off) is still powering the unit (almost
like a trickle charge) and since I don't turn the unit off, via, on/off
dial it's effecting/confusing the radar?

Anyone else experience this bizarre behavior from there 8500 x50.
For the record..Love the unit! Saved me more then I can remember.

I did order the inviscord with Mike's mount last week. Should be coming
in any day.

Has anyone else had these kind of problems with the above set-up. Or
does anyone know if the mirror puts out current when ignition is off?
I'm thinking I may have to turn unit off before turning car off. Crazy
**** is, it just started to act up and it's been plugged in this way for
almost a year.

Sorry for the long post.
Thanks for taking 2 minutes of your life to read all of this

Now I'm wondering if "low" voltage is discharged through lighter
when car is off?
