Nav Bypass on EBAY, anyone try it? Link inside

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/G35-N...spagenameZWDVW

I tried emailing the guy about what all is involved, here is his response...

"You will not have to remove the navigation unit from the dash. The module of interest is the unit under the passenger's seat. My fully detailed instructions will take you from start to finish without any problems. The document includes pictures to help you out visually and typically takes, at most, a 1/2 hour to complete.

I have had nothing but positive feedback in all of my transactions because of the quality of service and product I supply. If you have any futher questions please feel free to contact me.

Thanks

Thomas Cappetta "

Im under that impression also, but from what I have read on this forum, the only way to bypass this is by splicing the KP tech piece which goes behind the screen, which involves taking the dash apart. He guarantees it only takes about a half hour and nothing on my dash will have to be taken apart...

Save yourself the $25 and just read this.

His 'method' is to install a switch in the VSS wire. By preventing the VSS signal from getting to the Navi control unit it will allow you to input data while moving.

However, with the switch flipped it the navi will NOT keep your position accurate. It will NOT update MPG calculations (leaving them invalid). It will NOT update maintenance records. The navi unit will think you are standing still, so it basically won't function correctly.

So, basically, you will have to flip the switch whenever you want to input data, and then flip it back when you are done.

You will have to do some minor disassembly to perfrom the 'Ebay' mod. You will have to drop the glovebox (most likely) to access the back of the navi unit. You will have to cut wires to make this work, also.

If you want to compare it to the KPtech module, the KPtech module costs $25 more (shipped). The KPtech module will automatically press the 'OK' button every time the vehicle is started. The KPtech module can also bypass the VSS signal using a 'smart bypass' technique that is triggered through the 'OK' button (so there are no switches to add).

If you arn't worried about the 'OK' button then just buy a $3 switch and run the VSS signal through it. Some people (on this forum) even use the trunk bypass switch that is in the glove box.

I just read what was posted in the first post. I do not believe the unit he is talking about is under the seat. It is under the seat in certain Nissan vehicles, but I do not believe it is there on the G35.

You basically just need to find the Navi control unit (the thing you put the Navi DVD in) and access the back of it.

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate your help and the pnly reason I was considering this is because I do not know how to remove the dash and screen to install your switch. The express up for the windows was a piece of cake and I wish I had the know how to do this. Thank you for your help.

I got a response:

Yes this will work on an 04 coupe. The install is designed for a novice modifier and will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. The only thing that needs to be taken apart is the glove compartment. The only adverse effect of this modification, which is not even a huge problem is leaving the switch that I have you install, in the on position which will prevent the nav unit from realizing that you are moving. Therefore the GPS will think that you are stuck. Please note that while you are moving your nav unit calculates your MPG, speed, etc. These calculations will have a minor error in calculation, because there are going to be times when your unit thinks you are not moving when in fact you are. Yes, everything will function as OEM. This method will allow you to switch between an input mode and an OEM mode. You will be required to cut a wire, but that is something that is not going to be seen when you are bring the car in for maintenance or returning a lease. As long as you follow my directions you will have no problems. I hope that helps ease your concerns, if you have any further questions please let me know… In case your interested I also carry OEM service manuals for all G35’s. If you need once let me know.

Thanks

Thomas Cappetta

I give him credit for being honest and up front about the adverse effects. I think he downplayed them a bit, but at least he mentioned them. However, he did confirm that his method is exactly how I described. Drop the glove box, find the white/green wire, cut it, and wire it through a switch.

i still have the nav bypass chip from one of the forum members here, Mechee.
Let me know if you are interested. I have been too lazy to install it. Didnt want to take apart my dash again. So its has never been installed, the only thing you need to do that might be a little difficult is you have to sauter a wire onto the nav circuit board. Follow link below for all the info on this chip. PM if intersted. Thanks!
