anyone every try to mod oem dash instead of aftermarket DD

just think it would be much cheaper to dremel the oem dash and maybe sand it down instead of buying the aftermarket DD dash, bracket, and A/C controls.....anyone ever try it before?

homie you have to get the JDM ac control since the OEM AC control is on the same circuit board as the BOSE stereo... the finisher is cheap... do it right... just my 2 cents...

Someone did this a long time ago, just to see if they could, and they did.

However, you'll still need the AC board, so why not just buy the brackets and finisher and save yourself the time, and have OEM parts to put back in when you trade/sell.

Doesn't sound like it's worth the effort when you can just get the real JDM thing and have it look pro and not worry about over/under trimming something etc etc. It CAN be done but..... WHY?!

If it were only as simple as using the dremel. A local audio shop told me they could modify my OEM AC controller to work. I'll never go there again.

I am going to be undertaking this pretty soon., however I will be modifying the aftermarket finisher because these are easier to come by if I mess up. I am going to use birdseye veneer (not fake, veneer just means really thin) for the center section and then make the cuts in that for the lcd, deck, navi and ac controls.

I wouldn't bother with trying to make the AC controls work, I actually thought about heating up the board and trying to bend it, but of course that didn't work. And then theres trying to rework the circuitry, which is too much work imo. I think forking out the 200 for the controller is worth the trouble... Here are a few iterations of my interior all modded from the stock finisher

v1

v2

v3

looks good 2slo. must've been a pain to extend the wires to the headliner.
