Anyone interested?

I know a lot of you are interested in doing a custom computer in your G's and I'm sure you would like a stock look but the price is too high. I went to my local infiniti dealer today and asked how much he could get me everything I needed to fit a screen in place of the stock navigation. Some of you were quoted with something around $1500. I have good news. I can get that stuff for half the price. If 10 of you are willing to do a group buy. If theres more... who knows I can ask him to do even better. Here's a list of all the items included and the price.

Display Assembly - (the spring loaded mechanism) - $529.62
Screw Kit - screws necessary for the whole kit) - $14.07
Navigation Finisher - the thing that holds the screen - $15.11
Switch Assembly - The button that goes on top of the lcd - $20.15
Lid Assembly - The whole console fitted for the navigation - $116.26
Total for this - $695.21
Let me know whose interested and I'll provide you with more info. Thanks.

Re: Anyone interested?

Wow that sounds awesome. I always thought that it might be cool to put a screen in the G, but didn't think I actually would. But that's an unbelievable price.

Ok, I have a few questions though (BTW, as it will become pretty obvious in a sec, I don't know a whole lot about car audio). First, what will this look like when it's done? I'm assuming there won't be the Nav buttons filling that little rectangle in front of the screen, so what will be there? Also, what other devices/electronics will be necessary to get this to work. I know the LCD will actually function the way it is, but as far as having inputs (DVD, PS2, etc.). I guess it just depends on what you're wanting to do with the screen. I'm sure I'll have more questions but that's all I can think of now...

Re: Anyone interested?

This is just all the things necessary to make it a stock fit. You would actually have to buy all the other "cool" things yourself such as PS2, computer, dvd player. What my plan is to do the following. I am getting a shuttle system (www.shuttle.com SB61G2). And putting a tv tuner, graphics card, sound card, etc. in there. This will allow me to play MP3's, play dvd's, and I am also planning on buying GPS software. So this will basically be an all in one device that will be cheaper then the stock navi. Which to me is worth it. The opening for the stock buttons will be there, but I plan on convering those up somehow. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking about using bondo to mold the curve and spraying it with some touch up paint. Then I am getting a 7" touchscreen to go into the lcd holder. All this will be powered by a Opus power supply which will automatically turn on the computer when the ignition is on and turn off the computer 30 seconds after the car is turned off. All this is costing me around $2000. Same price as the stock navi with more functions. This group buy is just for all the things necessary to put the screen in place of the navi and get a stock look which will not attract theives opposed to a screen just screwed to the dash. Any other questions just ask. Thanks.

Re: Anyone interested?

How would it look when open or closed? Would their be a space empty where the Navi controls are normally? Also, how does the screen come up? Stay up? Go down? I like the idea. The only thing stopping me from installing a navi/entertainment system is the screen.

One last thing, what screen would fit the console?

Re: Anyone interested?

It would open close just like the stock navi does. That's the whole point in spending $695 on all the parts to make it a stock setup. lol. Instead of the big opening for the cubby like those of you without the navi there would be little openings for the buttons on the lower half of the cubby opening and the screen would come out of the other half. Try to imagine it in the pic I've attached.

Re: Anyone interested?

Hey g35pimp. I already have a monitor installed with the stock nav cover. I would probably be in just for the spring loaded mechanism and the switch assembly. That price for the spring loaded assembly is over half of what I was quoted. I've been trying to motorize this damn screen, but with no success. Might as well buy the mechanism.

Re: Anyone interested?

i'm in. i already have the finisher and the switch so i'd just be in for the $529.62 the $14.07, and maybe the $116.26. is the part for $116.26 for the panel that holds the buttons for the nav? i was thinking about cutting the cubby lid in half and using it in place of the panel with the buttons. that way you wouldn't have to bondo or anything...just make a good cut and do a lil sanding. maybe save $116 in the process?

Re: Anyone interested?

kuo - yes the 116.26 is for the panel that holds the stereo buttons as well as the navi buttons. Anyone interested please PM me with what items you are wanting to buy so I can make a list of what to order. Thanks.
