Where can I get a linear actuator?
I'm going to be putting a xenarc screen into my g35 in the cubby hole and need to find a linear actuator or some other device to motorize it. All the ones that I've seen are way to big and powerful for what I need. I just need something that can handle at least 2 lbs of push and pull, but not much more and about 6 inches of linear travel.
Does anyone know where I can purchase anything like this, preferably with built in limit switches???

I have been thinking of using these for differen't little applications, they move at 6mm per second, and get move hundreds of pounds! and they are relatively cheap!!!

if you want, you can just buy the stock spring loaded mechanism. We are doing a group buy soon. I'm trying to get a list of people interested. Look about 10 threads down under "Anyone Interested?" Let me know if you are. Thanks.

Re: Where can I get a linear actuator?
Thanks, I saw the linear actuatuators from firgelli.com, but I'm looking for something much smaller, less powerful, and preferably less expensive. Any other ideas?
I considered the group buy thing for stock nav assembly as well as everything else from fiberglass to just sticking the screen in the cubby. Although the stock spring mechanism could be cool, $500 is above what I'm willing to spend for something that will have unusable button holes and im not sure how stable it will be for a touch screen.
I've been considering my options for about 3 months on how to go about this and I have almost all the parts for my design accept a motor to move the screen.

Hey god_of_cpu, if you do get a linear actuator, have you thought of where you were going to mount it? To have a linear actuator with 6" of travel, the entire length of the assembly when it is compressed will be at least 8-10", maybe more, considering the dc motor and body of the actuator. I've looked at this a bunch of times and I don't think there's enough room in there.

Re: Where can I get a linear actuator?
aorbeta, yeah, i've now come to the conclusion that a linear actuator isnt going to work but I know theres got to be some other way out there of doing it. Size is a major issue but i think theres enough room to accomodate both a screen and motor since i removed the cubby and plan on mounting the screen flat semi-horizontally and have it flip up like most in dash screens do. I found this site http://www.theproductfinder.com/motors/geamot.htm Now im considering ways to do it with a gear moter but im still just fishing...
Re: Where can I get a linear actuator?
god_of_cpu, I currently have a geared DC motor that I purchased from mcmaster.com I plan to use it in an elevator type application for the monitor. If I put my monitor on a rail type system, much like how dresser drawers move in and out, so it moves up and down, straight and true without any hitch, and pull it up and down with the gear motor and some small cabling, I think it might work. Sorry if this description has confused you, I'm terrible at describing things on paper.
