'06 G35 factory speaker swap to polk db 650s
'06 G35 non-bose factory base speaker swap to polk db 650s
didnt like the hollow bass and distortion from the stock non-premium speakers, so i swapped out with polk DB650s. they aren't broken in yet, but so far they sound awesome compared with factory set, even without adding an external amp (vs. the factory non-premium base system)
i'm pleased with the result.. the bass response is much better and my music sounds a lot better.
+1 for zenclosures (the holes lined up perfectly) and
+1 for the db650 's!

More photos of the install here
bill of materials:
6x #14 stainless steel metal screws
2 sheets of foam
zenclosure spacers
wires
AMP Molex connectors (AMP 4.20mm PE series from Mouser)
1/4" lock washers
locktite
i had a lot of fun.. the scariest part is popping off the door trim... i found using a card wrapped screwdriver in the indent, then holding firmly and pulling straight out would eventually cause the whole thing to pop out, nice and clean.
doing it alone its also a little tricky to unplug the harnesses and etc while holding the door panel, but after the first door it was pretty easy.
Thanks to all on the forums who helped out, and who posted instructions and pictures of similar work, it was very helpful.

vietjdmboi: 5" hole for the zenclosures, which is a perfect match for the polks (its given as a sepcification in the polk literature). 06 G35 fronts are 6.5", 4 ohm (for the base only. Bose uses 2 ohm and from what i read the Infiniti line is a good match for direct swap).
cobra 2 g : total cost of everything broken down:
screws: 3
foam: 1
zenclosures: 27
wire:1
molex connector parts 5
lock washers .50
locktite - 5 for the whole bottle
db650s - 60
___________
total 101.50
Tarheel: the DIY was fun, and i feel better about it than having a random installer do it (who doesnt care about my G as much as i do
) Most places i asked would not have had a spacer as fitting as the zenclosures, and would have used a standard 1" spacer and drilled new holes to mount the speakers, and were quathing me about 40 labour + 20 for the spacers, so in the end i saved 20 bucks and learned lots about my car.
now i'm thinking about doing that backs too, because the difference is quite substantial.
