You are right on the power. A 500/1 is a bit weak for a W6 but so is that Alpine. I have a 1000/1 on my 12W6 at ~60-70% gain and it rocks with the focals and 450/4.

WHAT!! No way the 500/1 is too weak to drive the 10w6v2. That is the most power you would want to send to that sub. If you look at JL's website 425-450 is optimal wattage and 600 puts you in danger zone .
The PDX is ok but the 500/1 walks over it.
What kills the PDX is its digital amplifier design. It is made to output a large amount of wattage in a small package. The problem is you suffer in its dampening factor ( the ability to control a woofer)and current. The JL gives you both in a slightly larger package.
I think you made a great purchase but the 500/1 is a hoss.
I have owned dozens of JL subs and installed/built custom enclosures for many, many more while I was a MECP certified installer and I can tell you that JL subs need lots of power to perform. My old rule of thumb was to double the recommended power for any JL to get some true performance out of it.
IMO from my experience the 500/1 is not enough power to run that sub in a sealed enclosure. It will work and sound good but not be anywhere near it’s true potential.

Double the power = Voided warranty. I am a JL, Alpine dealer. I would never install or recommend a client to double the rated power handling on a sub. You will create ton's of customer service issues.

Yeah, to each their own. We did it for years and did not see too many blown subs and those guys didn't understand what "distortion" was. I have only blown 1 JL sub out of the 40+ I have owned.
