NAVI system - "Disc error." Anyone else?

Basically, my NAVI system stopped working a week or so after I bought it. My screen says "Disc error." The self-diagnostic says I have an "abnormal central unit". A tech at the Infiniti dealership said I had an old disc and that I needed to buy the updated version (with my own money). I don't think his analysis is correct and even if it was, the disc and system should still be under warranty so that I don't have to pay. Has anyone else had this problem and/or fixed it?

The new version came out late last year, so your new car should already have it. I'm not sure what the latest version is. I think your version would be marked on the DVD label.

However, the latest disc will only add more mapping data to your system. It has nothing to do with errors, or an "abnormal system unit." If you do have an older disc, and you want the newer data, you'll probably have to pay for it (somewhere around $150 I think). But the system should work just fine with the disc you have, and if it doesn't, they need to fix it under warranty, irregardless of which version of the map data you possess. Don't talk to a tech. Talk to a service manager. If they can't help, move up the ladder to the general manager.

Thanks for that info! I was thinking the same thing about the disc too. Well, I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow so I'll try to talk to the service and/or general manager. Crossing my fingers!
