Anyone know what gauge kit to get?

I'm debating between a 4gauge and 2gauge kit.

my understanding is the lower (2g) is always better. it allows for more current in order to achieve full potential on those amps. some people might tell you it's an overkill (plus it's more expensive). the best way to think about it is:

a) pretend you have a very thin (coffee) straw. how much and how fast can you drink?
b) pretend you have a very thick (slurpee) straw. how much and how fast can you drink?


this was told to me one time, and i think it makes a lot of sense. hope it helps.

Thanks and I agree with the concept but running 2gauge is a pain compared to 4gauge. Anyone with experience with either in the G?

what fuse amp to use when runnin an 500watt to subs?

I think you would be fine with 4awg. I do have 2awg tho.

4 gauge will work fine for your setup. 2 or 0 gauge would be the best, but like you said, they're a pain to run the wires

I've got 4 running from my battery to a fused dist block with 8 running to each amp.

Go with 2.

You can do what Meatshackle did except run a 2 guage from the battery to a dist. block. From there you should have an easier time routing the wires.

And I believe JL specifically states that 4ga wire should be used at the amps.

The amps will accept up to 4ga but 8ga is good for up to 600 watts. The only thing JL says you must use is a 50amp fuse on each amp. 8ga wire can carry up to 100amps and 4ga 150amps.

Don't use 8awg for your main power run whatever you do. You need at least 4awg also make sure that it's real 4awg. MANY companies "underguage" their wire which is a fancy way of saying they lie. If the amp kit seems like a great deal it's probably under guaged or worse copper clad aluminum. The price of copper is what drives the price of wire and wire kits so there is only so much you can save before performance is seriously degraded.

I mounting amps in rear footwells. I estimate about a 8ft run to the distribution block on the passenger side, then a 1ft run on one side and 4ft run to the other side.

I ran 0 gauge from my battery (ground and power!!!) to a distro block in the trunk. PITA, but worth it in my opinion. I do have a bit more amps than you, though (450/4, 500/1, e2150, and a carPC)
