Stereo Fit in navigation compartment????

I'm looking to replace my factory stereo with an aftermarket Pioneer. The demensions of the new stereo are:
Depth 6.5 in.
Height 2 in.
Width 7 in.

Since I don't have a navigation system I'd like to mount it where that would go. It looks like all the dimensions look like it would fit. But I'm not sure of the depth. I know I'll need to cut out the inside of the compartment but if I do will there be enough clearance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,
Joe

But it would face the roof of the car.

yeah, I was going to replace my factory radio with an aftermarket stereo but I didn't want to spend $200 for a dashboard kit. I was hoping to leave the factory radio in it's place and install the aftermarket stereo where the nav would go.
