You can modify it so that you can enter directions while driving-- this is done by installing a switch that turns off the speed senor input to the Nav (VSS wire). Here's a good post on it
For the Nav to play DVDs, you have a couple of options, but the most popular seems to be the Avelectronic tuner. Search for Aveletronic and you'll find a ton of posts... hit up their site at www.avelectronic.com for more info. This is a pretty cursory look at it, but it should give you enough info to get you going. Good luck,
