A few GPS questions
A few GPS questions
I want to purchase a portable GPS system for around $500-$600. I am considering either a Garmin or Magellan. I would like to know how easy is it to update the maps and costs associated. Also if anybody is using the bluetooth option, how well that works. Any other input members can offer would be appreciated.
Double Din
I agree a double din unit looks a lot cleaner and will have more features. But a double din unit installed will cost around $2000. I don't really need NAV on a regular basis so figured a $500 unit would sufficient.
I have a Garmin StreetPilot 2620 (soon to be 2720) sitting in the navi cubby hole. You purchase upgrade DVD's from Garmin, load it into your computer, and connect the Garmin unit via mini-USB cable. The DVD will update the maps.
Some Garmin units update via an SD card that plugs into the unit.
I like the protable Garmin unit because I can take it with me in other cars. When flying for a trip, I put it in my backpack and put it in the rental.
