Sat Radio Install

I just finished installing the XM radio kit in my sedan. The install was quite easy, but I couldn't bring myself to install the huge antenna (included in the kit) on the roof, so I put it on the rear shelf. I have 35% non-metallic tint, and I am not satistied with the reception. I do get occasional drop-outs. As seen on this forum, I anxiously await the new Terk micro antenna. Clearly, an outside antenna is needed, expecially in the area I live with mostly heavily tree-lined streets.

The programming and sound quality are great though, and I don't know why I waited so long to try this.

How many wires is the attenna? I have one from my old car, which was used on the pioneer system. 2 wires, green and yellow i believe. Will this work?

Re: Sat Radio Install

Actually our new micro antennas only have one wire...

but you'll need one of these to hook it up to the dual input tuner...

I actually swapped the Terk 2 antenna that was on my rear deck w/ the the new micro antenna & mounted it on my dash near the VIN # plate. Reception is a 100x better especially since my 5% tint isn't obstructing the signal anymore.

Let me know & I can take pix if you'd like.

Re: Sat Radio Install

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the new micro antennas not come out untill sometime in March or April? I called Terk directly, and that's what they said.

Re: Sat Radio Install

Correct & incorrect, Terk's doesn't come out till March/April...Bltzsafe & Delphi have already released theirs into the market.

You can get them here...

I'm waiting on the Terk! From the pics I've seen, it looks to be much smaller than the "micros" that are out now.

Re: Sat Radio Install

i wonder if you tint although non-metallic is the problem? I've had my antenna on the rear shelf for 8 months or so with no significant problems. used to get very rare drop outs but now i can't remember the last time that happened. some have posted that putting a piece of metal under the antenna allows it to have a ground plane and better pick up the repeater signals. don't know how accurate that is.

Re: Sat Radio Install

Noremac- You're right it is a tad bit smaller...but my Blitzsafe is mounted inside my car so it's no biggie, plus it was free.
