Post Another OEM iPod link install (with pics)

The kit from EverythingG35

Pre-install

This is what I found in my 06 coupe when I removed the cowling just left of the spare tire in the trunk.

The white connector in the top of the picture is the sat radio connector. you will need to connect one end of the kit's harness to here. The box on the left-hand side is the control electronics and server drivers for the RAS. The box on the right is the Bluetooth phone adapter. The box mounted upside down beneath these is the Bose Amp.

Post-install

I left the ends of the zip ties on before I took this pic so their location would be a bit more visible. Note the extensive use of foam tape and zip ties to keep things quiet and the cables from rubbing.

The end product

The install itself took about 20 minutes, and was relatively painless. The controls will take some getting used to, but the sound quality is leaps and bounds beyond the FM modulator

I payed $185 plus shipping ordering from EverythingG35 (non-sat version), but haven't heard if anyone has gotten one of these working with an iPhone.

Nope, too much trouble... Since you cant do anything with the iPod when it is hooked up to the iPod link, I didn't see much value in having in the forward compartment.

Yes it does. The sound is "tinny" compared to my regular ipod on the same settings. Some tweaking may help that. I didn't try selecting different playlists so i'm not certain if that worked or not. I'll have to try it again...

Didn't try to make or receive a call while it was plugged in but i imagine it would work as normal through the bt if so equipped. Don't know for non bt systems. Will say i got an email and the music muted very briefly while it made the new mail chime. Didn't hear it through the speakers.

does your ipod sit on the ground? or did you somehow manage to get it in to the glove box or put a stand for it?

How long is the cable coming off the unit? Could you run the line under the backseat and to the front?

Nice.. Does the title scroll?

Aren't you worried about heat build up in the trunk? Heat kills the hard drives in the IPODs fast. (Assuming you have one with the hard drive... Some models are flash drives)

The reason to put an iPod in the center console is that you need to take it out with you, at least in the summer. The iPod batteries can get damaged pretty easily from heat, I think even one episode in a very hot car can hurt the charging capacity of the battery.

I don't know how true this is, but the thing costs too much to risk it. Apple has some info on their website: http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html
