New stereo trick: play dead.

Yesterday I got in my car, cranked it, and and my stereo started playing...for about 5 secs. At that point the LED and volume fade out and none of the stereo buttons worked(including power). Well I pulled over, turned the car off for 2-3 mins then cranked back up. The stereo didn't come back on until I hit the power button but so far it seems fine. Any idea what could have cause this to happen?

the common problem was the cd changer jamming up and the unit powering off like that. sounds like either your control board is going bad or your stereo was pulling too much power on the fuse.
