Hey everyone, Im new to the board, and first I just want to say that I have gained alot of knowledge just from reading your posts over the past three weeks. I am probably going to be purchasing my G Coupe in the next month and Im interested in buying the module that allows me to use my nav screen for DVD. I did have a question about doing this though, and the manufacturer of the module couldn't help me, so Im hoping that some of you can. I need to know that since the audio of the sources you plug into the module is modulated to a radio station frequency does the sound suck? How would you rate the sound quality when watching DVD's in this manner? Also, is there a way that I can intigrate the audio w/o modulating it to try and improve the SQ? Thanks for your help!

 

The sound doesn't suck but it's not cd quality. Presently there is not direct line adaptor for our system.

First, the $1299 that NAV-TV.com charges for their package is ridiculous. Most OEM LCD screens use regular NTSC composite inputs, so it's just a matter of plugging the DVD-nav's video, the DVD player's video ($100-200), and even a Playstation, into a 3- or 4-input, 1-output A/V switcher for about $100, and the output into the nav screen. For about $200-300 in parts, you can have an equivalent system as the Nav-TV system. If you upgrade your audio at the same time (outboard amplifier, aftermarket speakers, etc.), you will have the option of using a speaker-to-line level converter to switch audio sources as well, avoiding the use of RF modulators. Otherwise, add an RF modulator to your parts list.

This is all theoretical, but I'm pretty sure the above is accurate; I'm going to be getting a repair manual for my wife's G35 sedan, opening the dash, and looking into it further.

I hope you find something we can use. I only paid $400 for the AVeletronic box and it was more than worth it. $1300 is way too much. I also think it would cost more than $200 in parts since others (way smarter than me) have looked into it and agreed the AVelectronic box was the way to go.
