Aftermarket HU and keeping Bose amp and stock speakers

I've done some searching but I couldn't find a definitive answer if this can work.

I have a friend who is wanting to do a DD HU in his 05 G. He wants to keep the stock bose amp/speakers. Will the aftermarket HU output the right signal thru it's speaker wires on the wire harness so that the bose amp will work correctly?

I know this isn't the ideal setup, but that's what he wants to do.

I am trying to find out the same thing for the same reason. Anyone got the answer? I think it will work, but am not positive. I have not seen a post that says for sure. Most people seem to be using an aftermarket amp and speakers. I just don't have the green to ugrade my whole stereo system all at once.

Yes it will work. I did much research and ended up doing this. Basically the Metra 70-7551 wire harness allows you to do this.

+1 seen it done before, it will work. People say changing the head unit alone should already improve the sound.

Yes, it can be done but you want to make sure you send the line input voltage to the Bose amp, wither by an LOC or the new HU's RCA's feeding into the stock harness.

So Sean you're saying I could use the outputs of the RCA's (twisted pair) cut off the ends and wire those ends into the wire harness instead of using the speaker wire output the HU has?

Yes. You can do that. You would be feeding the wire harness adapter the 2 volt or so output from the new HU, which will make the Bose amp feel at home. The wire harness adapter would be connected to cut off RCA cables that would plug into the RCA outputs of the HU. The signal would then go from the HU at a good voltage that the Bose amp will accept. The Bose amp would amplify the signal and send it to the speakers. The speaker outputs of the HU would not be connected to anything.

Hey Nolan, you're going to need to reduce the audio output signal before feeding it to the Bose. One way would be to get an LOC to connect between the speaker outputs of the HU and the wire harness adapter. Then the speaker level signal will go through the LOC, get converted to a low level signal, and will then go through the existing harness wires to the Bose amp.

The other way would be to use the RCA outputs of the HU and cut an RCA cable to connect to the RCA outs and then to the wire harness adapter. The signal coming out of the new HU will be low level. It will go into the RCA end of the cut cable and the two wires at the cut end would then be connected to the appropriate speaker wires for the wire harness adapters. For example, the left front RCA output will be connected to the left front speaker leads on the wire harness adapter. The signal would then travel through the existing harness wires to the Bose amp.

Again, just get Metra 70-7551 wire harness. It has RCA inputs (to connect to the head unit), and just plugs into the factory wire harness.

I kept my stock amp and speakers except my head unit, it works perfect for me. I got my wire harness from Walmart NB-032 plus LOC.

Thanks that looks like the easiest way to do things. Thanks Sean for the help too.

I searched for that Metra 70-7551 harness, but couldn't find it. It essentially does as I described above by cutting an RCA cable. I'd go that route too.

Just a quick question though, that harness says for the G35 2003-2004. Do you think it matters if I have another year infiniti (2007)? Has the wiring changed? Anyone have an idea if this is the case. I would rather use tha harness if possible. Just a bit easier you know.

If your 07 is a coupe, you will be fine. It doesn't appear that Nissan has changed their harnesses since about 1995 or so.
