Can anyone recommend any good In Dash Navigation systems?

better than pioneer/alpine?

I think it's either pioneer or kenwood that have everything in them.

 

whats a good one with a reasonable price and quality? or if I had to go with thee best quality one?

It's not in dash but still a nice navigator. I don't know how you would mount it if you live in California though, because it's against the law to stick anything to the windshield.

 

i didnt know it was illegal. ive seen plenty of drivers on the road with it here. unless my eye is missing the mounting section of it.

 

I guess you could just mount it there and quickly remove it if a cop pulls you over.

 

I love my garmin c550. Take it with me on trips when i fly. Just stick it up in the rental car As for the G, if it's a problem in cali, stick it in the front pocket above the AC controls. What i do

 

You may be able to mount the Nuvi or any other portable GPS system in the OEM navi compartment. That's where I have my Garmin 2720 in my sedan.

In my coupe, I have a Kenwood DDX7017 with the Garmin made GPS add on module. I like the garmin units and the interface is the same for both of mine. IMO, Garmin is the best GPS on the market, but others will disagree.

Any major branded in-dash navi unit will be good enough for most people. It depends on what you want and how much you can pay.

 

I would get the Alpine IVA-W205 and the Blackbird if I didn't already have the stock navi (matter of fact, I might get it anyway)... I like it because it's not like some of the Pioneer decks I've seen that have one slot for DVD Navi and CD/DVD player (AVIC-D3 if I'm not mistaken). But that's just me, and I've always been partial to Alpine.

Yeah same. I don't like the AVIC-D3 at all just because of the fact that there is only one slot for either nav dvd or video dvd and it just doesn't make sense to have to put the navi disc back in when you want to make deviations from your route or you want to look stuff up on your route. I would love to trade in my W200 for a W205 and then get the new Blackbird PMD-B200(with the Bluetooth built in and all that good stuff) to dock inside it. I LOVE my W200 and the W205/B200 would make a super sweet combo! I've heard from my Alpine rep though that they have some tricked out new headunit coming out in the new year that will be similar to the Pioneer AVIC-Z2, so I think I'm gonna wait till I see for sure whats coming in January.

 

hmm sounds good, thanks for all the suggestions, but the only thing i fear is that there might be a lot of cutting around the dash involved with the in dash? Also the dealer told me that if my car didnt come w/ a navi..there's no way i can add on the factory navi on.. is this possible? or can i just get all the wires, have someone wire it then install a factory navi?

 

If your car doesn't have factory navi, it's not a simple task to install it. Very few have done so. It's easier to go with a DD HU that has navi or get the pop up screen that goes in the navi location at www.mp3car.com (in the store) and get a Garmin GVN 52 or GVN 53 to connect to it.

If you go with the JDM DD pieces or the Metra kit, there is no cutting of the dash to install a DD HU.
