Anyone have pics of rear of Bose Stereo Head Unit?
Hey all, I am in dialog with the vendor that supplies the bridge Dension uses for their iPod interface. This get's kind of complicated, & Blitz is simply NEVER going to make an iPod adapter kit for our Coupes (so it seems), they just think BMW & others are a higher priority. Anyway, Dension SAYS they support the Coupe on their site, but if you call them & ask them, as their WEB site in the tech specs, says it plugs into the CD changer port, they do not have an answer & refer us to the maker of the bridge they use (we have an in dash changer). So I FINALLY got a great tech person over there (where they make the briudge Dension uses), & they have a head unit from a single CD G35 (Non-Sat input model), but not the Bose, Sat, 6-Disc in Dash model. He says they DO NOT, plug into the Sat connector in the trunk, & that usually, even though there is a 6-disc in dash changer, there is OFTEN an open connector on the rear of the head unit, & that if you have this & you push the CD input button twice, & something is connected to it, it will toggle over, so IN THEORY the CD button input, NOT THE SAT, becomes an Aux 1 / AUX 2. He wants to see a picture of the rear of a Bose unit & can tell right away. I have his email etc, so now I just need a GOOD clear, pic of the rear of a Bose 6-Dsic Coupe head unit & I am hoping someone has one, as I am simply not ready to tear my deash apart for a photo opp!!!!
Anyone have a pic they will post??
Thanks.

IPOD and Head Unit
Great questions and thanks for looking into this...Unfortunately, i dont have a photo for you...but i am asking the same questions..(1) how hard is it to open the dash and remove the radio/ head unit (2) will the dension adapter allow us to toggle between the in dash 6 cd chgr and the ipod...according to their website it will...If you get any answers, I would greatly appreciate your help. I think this an awesome solution if it can be done relatively painful..ie self install...Keep us posted. Much Thanks!

After reviewing the SAT install process as described in the prior link (thanks to a handy poster), it looks to me like installing the Dension IPOD adapter is far to complicated in my opinion. What wouldbe the best solution would be if Dension or another company like Blitz developed an IPOD adpater that utilizes the SAT input in the trunk...that would be ideal...much easier...let me know if you hear about that.

Yeah, sadly, before I even made this post, I had already found the link to that site, pulled those pics & sent them to this guy. He could not tell clearly from the shots....
That was why I posted this post. I had spent a couple of hours online looking before writing this post.....

Check out my pix in the following link. I will try and take pix of the back of the stock stereo (complete with the aluminum bracket) tonight and post them in the next day or so.

I doubt that you can cut across the circuit board as there is no visable straight line separation from the radio unit. I couldn't do a hi-res picture between the stock ACC and deck b/c my digital camera kept blurry-ing up while trying to focus on the minute details of the circuit board. I will try and do another close up picture of region where the ACC ends and the deck starts.
I think the stock ACC has a different power/ground/ACC plug from the deck b/c there is a seperate cord coming from the stock ACC part .

The four plugs I think are:
1. Deck power/ACC/ground/powered antenna bundle
2. CD changer power/ACC/ground bundle
3. Speaker wire complex bundle
4. Steering wheel controls
I think round plug is antenna

Re: Anyone have pics of rear of Bose Stereo Head Unit?
Good picture. According to the manual, the upper left connector has the power, lighting, antenna power, and the front left and right signals to the Bose amp. The upper right connector has the rear left and right signals to the Bose amp and the signal to control the amp. The lower left connector only shows 4 of the 16 pins being used for the steering wheel controls and speed input. The lower right connector shows nothing in the manual.
So, you gotta wonder what's available on the 12 pins on the lower left connector and all of the pins on the lower right connector.
Need some inside contacts at Clarion to find out what is going on...

Don't forget, there are also wires for the the mute signal, the Nav voice input, the vehicle speed input, the headlights on/off input, and more...
You should be able to back-track every SMJ connector and wire in the service manual. Good luck!!!!

Re: Anyone have pics of rear of Bose Stereo Head Unit?
NAVI uses 4 pins on the lower left connector connector for voice and mute, so that still leaves 6 pins on that connector and the whole lower right connector that are not identified...

You have something confused. The entire connector shown on the upper left in the photo above is for the Sat unit. See this link for a photo of the Sat harness being disconnected from that position. This I am sure of. Try re-orienting yourself, and maybe this describes some of the "unused" wires.

Re: Anyone have pics of rear of Bose Stereo Head Unit?
Good luck. All of those wire connectors are useless to me now except the big one which I used for power/ACC/ground/powered antenna. The rest are tucked away nicely unused in the back of my new deck. Running 3 RCAs were much easier than splicing wire.
