Dude, the 9500i actually costs *MORE* than a V1 (go ahead, look online, most places sell it for 425-450, Valentine is 400), and it's not on par with the V1 because of the very fact that it lacks arrows. When there's a radar around, the Passport goes "beep". V1 tells you which direction it's coming from. V1 FTW.

V1 is the best. I spent around $450 from the website last Dec and got one. Best $450 I have spent. This thing has saved my a$$ so many times! Here is the link: https://store.valentine1.com/store/
I also have the invisicord mount for my homelink mirror. Its a great setup! Here is the link for that: http://www.invisicord.com/order.html
Get one you will love it!

I don't think those who don't have arrow experience understand that you *don't* necessarily slow down because of a Ka signal, the arrows let you make a choice:
Ka with arrow to the front=slow down as you drive into the speed net
Ka with arrow to the back=check rearview mirror to make sure no cop has direct line of sight, if he can see you (he'll have a strong radar signal), pull handbrake moderately to slow the car without showing brakelights. If no cop can see you (and there is a weak radar signal), speed up so he'll clock a different speeder that you've already passed.
If you speed up and the signal behind you goes weaker, keep it up, you're winning (keep a close eye on the arrows though, many times they work in pairs and there will be another signal ahead of you).
If the signal gets stronger, that cop is really moving and you need to make a decision as to whether you're in a *serious* hurry or if you can slow down to let him pass.
Without the arrows, your only choice is to slow down because you have no clue where to look.
Good luck.

Even though I have a V1 I'm still cautious...always looking around, in my mirrors and making sure all is clear before I do anything. The V1 just makes me feel comfortable as an extra protection unit! And it pays for itself when one day it flips outs and you slam the breaks and the next thing you know a cop is right there on the side waiting for you

I understand that research indicates that folks with Radar detectors get more tickets on average than those who don't. Reason is that they stop using their judgment and reason and allow the car to literally go into auto pilot by relying on the detector. Folks with radar detectors tend to speed more and drive more carelessly, as such, they may get more tickets as they become more cavalier.
Interesting question tho-- do people with Radar detectors cause more accidents or are they involved in more accidents?

Radar detectors don't cause speeding... speeders buy radar detectors... duh.

When I did my research on this I found the following...
> The V1 has the largest fan base
> The V1 (in reviews and tests) detects about the best of any
> The 9500i Detects better than almost everything except a couple models
> The 9500i is quite, uses GPS for speed/sensitivity and has the lockouts to make it even more quite
Thus, I choose the 9500i because I want the good functionality but I want it quite. I dont want to tinker with it all the time. I don't care about every false detection and radar source out there.
My buddy has the V1 and he likes it. I notice that he never has the sound on. I like my 9500 because when it gets a police radar (KA) it actually beeps with whatever signal type which tells you the strength then it says "KA Band" and then beeps some more with the gieger style, so i almost dont need the display. It gets more quite after a few beeps too if its a constant signal so it doesnt annoy me (auto mute i think its called).
most of the $350+ detectors are really good, so you cant go wrong, just depends on your style.
