Upgraded Bose-my system

So i got the Bose (with premium), and it preety much isn't cutting it. So, ive got a friend whose a manager at circuit city so im gonna get it all done there becuase ill get the employee discount. Im putting in a 12" Polk Momo sub, with Q-logic box. Replacing the front speakers with Alpine Type-R's, and the back speakers with Alpine Type-S's. And im getting an MTX amp for the sub. Do you guys think i should replace the amp for the speakers or will the Bose amp provide sufficient power? Also, is it worth it to change out that 7th speaker over the brake light or no? Thanks, can't wait till saturday!

Have you heard the Alpines before or are you just going with your friends recommendation on them?

Re: Upgraded Bose-my system

I heard them, got recomendations and have read reviews. They sounded good in the store, but I knew i wasn't going to base my total decision on that becuase its in a big room, and not at all like the enviroment of my car. My friend said they are the best component speakers they carry, and all the reviews ive read have gave them nothing but praise.

The type-r's are 180 a pair, and they are the kind with the tweeter built into the middle of the speaker with the crossover or something another within it. The type-s's are 100 a pair. I'll probally get the R's for around 110, and the S's around 60.

Re: Upgraded Bose-my system

I have the Polk Momo 12" in the trunk with Polk audio db series in the front and rear doors. I am now thinking of putting Polk momos all the way around in the doors.

Re: Upgraded Bose-my system

Yo Sixgear, i was totally gonna do Polk Momo's all throughout as well, but my friend and the guy in the audio department recomended the Alpines over the Polks. The Type-R's are only $10 more, and he said unless for some reason you want to stay Polk throughout then the Alpines are the way to go.

Re: Upgraded Bose-my system

In the 93 Camry my family has, there is a complete Alpine system. Alpine deck (CDA-9807). Fronts are the Type S 6.5" coxial. Rears are the Type S 6x9" coxial. I'm running the speakers on the 360watt max power amp. (40rms x 4) MRP-F240. This was a relatively cheap system to put in. I hate to admit it sometimes, but it sounds way better than the $1200 Bose system in our G's.

The comment I wanted to make was: the Alpine Type S, while being a good value are not as good as the Type R. I'd recommend sticking to all Type R's.

Re: Upgraded Bose-my system

Can the Alpines be run by the Bose amp? This is now killing me, I need the sound change and you guys are feeding it like mad.

Re: Upgraded Bose-my system

By the way, don't get the coxial type R's. Get the component ones for the front. You'll want a better amp to run those speakers, they want more power too. The Bose amp sucks, plus i think there are technical differneces of some sort.

Re: Upgraded Bose-my system

Its the 2 ohm crap that Bose uses to make life difficult. I can still keep the head unit but add an amp right? This is killing me but I want to thank you guys for giving me a quick and painless education.

Re: Upgraded Bose-my system

The guy at circuit said they should have no problem running off the bose amp, but maybe he didn't know about the bose amp and the 2-ohms mumbo jumbo. Can someone recomend a good amp for feeding these new alpines. And in the front im putting in the Type-R 6.5" coaxials (the $180 pair) and the rear im just gonna put in the Type-s becuase i don't care as much about the quality for those as i do about the front.

Re: Upgraded Bose-my system

I sent you a PM. Do the Polk Db's fit the sedan mounts? They have a little higher mounting depth than the Kappa's.
