Navi Question.. Wat exactly is a Waypoint?
Navi Question.. Wat exactly is a Waypoint?
So I read the navi manual a few times and I am not too sure if I am utilizing my Navi to it's full potential.....
For example, I have no idea what a waypoint is.. I know that you can set it in your route to stop by or drive by the place and can see it accordingly on the screen. But why would you use it?
Also, on the traffic detour never works for me. It always says no detour route found...
Lastly, There are different routes I can take when goin home from work. I think it would be coo if the navi can calculate the fastest route by traffic and tell me which one to take.. but appreantly it doesn't..
Am i missing something? Or is the navi just the way it is?
Thanks!

according to GARMIN:
Waypoints are locations or landmarks worth recording and storing in your GPS. These are locations you may later want to return to. They may be check points on a route or significant ground features. (e.g., camp, the truck, a fork in a trail, or a favorite fishing spot).
Waypoints may be defined and stored in the unit manually, by taking coordinates for the waypoint from a map or other reference. This can be done before ever leaving home. Or more usually, waypoints may be entered directly by taking a reading with the unit at the location itself, giving it a name, and then saving the point.
Waypoints may also be put into the unit by referencing another waypoint already stored, giving the reference waypoint, and entering the distance and compass bearing to the new waypoint.

Or you could change the destination when you edit the route, which would make your original destination a waypoint.

I've been using the nav consistently since I got the car a year ago and so far I've only seen it do a good traffic detour once.

Also, when you don't use the voice commands for destination and you enter the destination by hand -- whether it's a manual entry or from the address book -- the car will present you with several routes if they're available. You can pick at that time which one you want to follow.
Thanks for the input...
I tried all the different route settings, fastest, quickest, and Minimize Freeway.... but it always shows the same route on the freeway... Never can get the Traffic Detour to work as it states there is no route found or something like that........
I'm thinkin of cancellin my xm. I think its a waste of 20 dollars a month or im still not utilizing my navi to it's fullest... I think it does a fine job of getting to a new destination but other than that it's my opnion that it's not very useful.. it does look coo though.. lol
