when you press the cd button but you do NOT have the ipod hooked up, does it still cycle through CD CHG?

I ask because I installed it yesterday (2005 sedan) and it worked last night and this morning but it stopped when I went out for lunch and the cd button only plays cd's which is so last century.

anyways, I'm hooking up my iphone sideways for the album scroll features. I'll post up pics once it's consistantly working.
