bose speaker compatibility?

Hey yall,

I'm sure some of you guys have seen this question a million times. I'm planning on installing an aftermarket HU, sub and amp in my 03 sedan. I've heard that if you have the Bose system in your car it might have difficulties because the Bose HU and speakers run on a specific resistance thats different from common aftermarket HU's. Is this true? Will I have to buy a new set of speakers just so it works? Or will the sound quality be the same?

I believe you can bypass the bose system and still be able to use it with your aftermarket deck....Try a search, theres some info on it around here somewhere...Only downside is I hear the quality sucks...

I bypassed the bose amp in my car and run the rear 4 speakers off my head unit. It sounds just fine, but then again the front door speakers are the ones getting almost all the power.

If you're upgrading the HU and adding an amp, spend a few more dollars and at least upgrade the front speakers and add a sub.

The Bose speakers are 2 ohm and aren't anything special. I would think you could blow them easily with an aftermarket amp.

...or if you want to keep your bose amp and upgrade your speakers only, infinity(not infiniti) has some component speaker systems that are 2 0hms.

Ok. So if I decide to keep the stock speakers, there won't be a problem if I get an aftermarket HU that runs at 4 Ohms. What will happen when the 4 Ohm HU sends a signal into the Bose amp and speakers which are 2 Ohms? The setup that I have right now are as follows: JL 500/1, Kaption SPL 1200 sub and I'm getting the Eclipse AVN 5510 Navi. I want some extra bass, but if the interior speakers sound the same with this HU then I won't bother changing them. If the speakers sound worse than before, I will consider changing them. Any advice/suggestions?
