Looking for best price/performance for 600-800

I recently picked up a 2003 G35. I want to get sirius satellite radio in my car and improve the overall sound quality. It seems as though I will have to put a new head unit in but I am concerned about the controls on the steering wheel still working (volume controls + cruise controls). Is it possible for me to keep this functionality and will a head unit alone improve the sound quality noticeably? I am willing to pick up other components like a sub but I don't need a system that will shake the car next to you. I just want a quality setup and want to get the most for my money. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thank you.

6-800 is not really enough for a good system for our cars, as to change the head unit requires a jdm center console which is a few hundred itself already. better off just keeping the stock headunit, purchasing a decent set of component speakers for the front, an amp and a small subwoofer system.

$800 isn't enough for the double din conversion and the head unit; you'd have to get a fairly modest one. For that price, you could probably manage to install a Pioneer Avic D3, but you will still go over $800.

Avic D3: $580 at amazon
PAC SWI-Jack for steering wheel controls: $60-$70
JDM Double Din conversion: $250+
SIR-PNR2 Sirius receiver: $100+

So, before installation, before speakers you're at $1k for something decent. If you want a cheaper head unit, you have to start making some major sacrifices in functionality.

I'm doing a Kenwood DNX5120 install this weekend; it's similar to the Avic D3, with the exception that it's got Garmin GPS using flash memory, so you don't need to put in NAV DVD's. It costs about $150 more, though.

Wow I had no idea that upgrading was such a fiasco. What would be the easiest way for me to add Sirius to my receiver and a little extra extra bass to my system?

Why not just buy the OEM Sirius receiver? I believe it costs around $200 for the part, but you'd have to pay installation on top of that.

I have no experience with upgrading speakers, so I can't help on the bass part of your question. It's my understanding that the Bose Amp expects very low impedence speakers, so simply hooking up a better subwoofer won't work very well, you will need a new amp for at least the subwoofer.

$290 for the factory Sirius tuner and antenna. http://www.g35parts.com/9083/osc/pro...roducts_id=284

Depending on your VIN, you will also need to buy the satellite tuner wire harness and take out the radio to install it.

If your car is prewired, installing the tuner box is pretty easy and straightforward. The instructions are there on the page of the link above.
