a/d/s 236is install
Thinking of getting these for my 04 coupe....
How is the fit of both the 6.5 and the tweeter in the stock openings?
Any modifications to anything needed?
Should the crossover box also be installed in the door?
I'm looking for studio quality sound that I can tailor with an eq, not harsh crap that i have to *fix* with an eq, so I'm assuming this is the correct set of components for me.
ANY comments about these speakers or the installation would be appreciated!!

Re: a/d/s 236is install
funny, you should ask about install the x-over in the door...i have 641IS which it come with a HUGH x-overs, i try to put them in the door's armrest, but i can not seem to find a way to screw it down on both sides, since its so freakin heavy, it will pop out after open and closs the door few times, the dumbass that i AM! i try to fiberglass the armrest and mod the x-over into it, since i dont have first or second clue about firberglassing( along with many other thing about the installtions), took me few long days, when it dried and sanding it few hundren times, after i thought it lQQk alright, i got them painted and try to put the x-over into it, of course it did not FIT, cus i didnt take in to count that with the paint and fibergalss, the opening will be smaller, (thats where the dumbass part came in) nevertheless i try to force it in to it, guess i pushed lil too hard or i didnt put enough coats on it, my pride and joy CRACKED! i attech some pics, and think i will share my sorrow with everyone...s.w.

Wait, so it wouldn't fit hidden *inside* the door, so you tried setting it up so it was visible from inside the car? I'm going for a bit more of a stealth install than that
By "In the door" I mean hidden out of site. If the clearance is tight, I'll just take the crossover apart and make it fit.
Anyone else have experience putting aftermarket separates in the door, and any fitment problems or hints you want to share?

Re: a/d/s 236is install
the 236's x-over are smaller, so it wont have any problem to be installed in the door, i did what i've done was cus i thought the x-over are so nice lQQking, its shame to hide it, what i end up doing is, i screw them down to the metal of door, not the armrest, and warp the armrest with leather, and cover the opening with plexiglass. so i am sure the 236's x-over will fit inside of the door...one more thing, the stock opening is about 4 inchs from the door panel, if you screw them into the door panel, and somehow sealing them, you can have decent size of enclosure, it will get you better midbass responds, they are next on my to do list along with refibergalss the door, but this time i will seek out an pro...s.w.

Re: a/d/s 236is install
I velcro'd MB Quart crossovers to the underside of the elbow rest. There's a natural space left by the protrusion of the elbow rest. There are plastic "ribs" that won't allow the crossover to sit flat, so I used a dremel tool to cut them away. You can see what I mean in the photos.

Re: a/d/s 236is install
Without having seen it myself, but having run into similar situations....... I'd make up a big spacer ring to mount the speaker to the door, so it ends up closer to the panel, but is still sealed to and screwed into the steel of the door.

Thanks for all the replies and photos. This will definitely help.
What are your opinions of Boston Acoustics? I had a set of them in a car about 10 years ago, and I really liked them then. Wondering if they're still as good. Anyone?
