JL Questions

I got my dickskinners on a JL 300/4 and a 500/1 for a pretty good price and I need to put another amp kit in for the 500/1. Should I just replace both with 4 gauge or should I keep the 8g for the 300/1 and 4g for the 500/1? Also, I see folks using a cap with these amps in the past. Would this also be a good idea?

Replace the 8 gauge with the 4 gauge with a distribution block and add a capacitor.

Keep the 8 and run the 4 or better yet run a 0ga.

I use 0ga for my 1000/1 and 450/4.

Just one 0ga is plenty. If not keep the 8ga and run a 4ga with it.

You can run 4 from the battery to the dist block and then 4 to each of the amps. You can also run 8 from the block to the amps.

Been doing some research with this one. I see people running a capacitor but i'm not sure if this is needed. Some people say that it makes up for the charge that is lacking from our OEM alternator. I already have an 8g running to my Soundstream 600.5 which I don't even see an issue with. I'm replacing this with the JL 300/4 and 500/1. I was going to run the 500/1 separately with 4g. I figured that a cap is needed when i'm running more power.

I'm running this now:

Eclipse ANV5435
Soundstream 600.5 (90w x 4, + 240w x 1)
Infinity Kappa 60.7cs in the front
Infinity Kappa Coax 6.5 rear sides
Older JL 10w6 (2-ohm) in a 4080

I'm changing the amp out to run these two:
JL 300/4
JL 500/1

The highs sound pretty clear but i've got the gain all the way up for the JL sub. So, I need a bit more to get what I want.

+1. You should be ok running 4 guage from battery to distribution block and then 8 guage from distribution block to your amps. I have a extra 1x4 guage in, 4x8 guage out Monster Power distribution block (with fuses) that I am not currently using since it came out of my old car install if you need one. I also have two sets of Rockford Fosgate Dual Twist Signal Cable - 16.4’ (5.0m) (brand new), that I bought but never returned if you need RCA cables.

Replace the 8 guage with the 4 gauge and use a distribution block as Giley said. I am currently running a JL 1000/1 and 300/4 and the cap. The cap stiffens the bass and doesnt waste power.
