Question re: subs/box/amp
Hi all,
I need your help. I am by no means a car audio expert...that's probably why I am in this situation.
I have a z-enclosure box for 2x 10" subs. Total volume approx 0.8 cubic ft.
I have 2x 10" kicker comp VR ...specs for sealed box 0.8 cu ft. each!
I have a rockford P325.1 (325w rms) 1085w peak
Each sub is 400w rms/ 800 peak and they are wired as one (don't know the term)
The gains are at 80% and I don't want to kill the amp. the subs are being driven but not moving a whole lot. Sound is ok...but could be louder and stronger.
What is the issue...the amp too weak or the sub box is too small?
Will putting poly-fill in the box help solve this problem?
I don't really want to build a new box...cuz i don't want a huge beast in the trunk...I like the size of this box...as for the amp, I was told that this was a good match 325rms for a 400w rms sub.
Please enlighten me.

There's some subs out there that require .4 cu.ft. that'll fit your needs. Rockford Fosgate makes some that requires .4-1.0 cu.ft. so that may fall within your dimensions.
Also, check your polarity, i often see many people neglect the importance of + and -...thinking that attaching two wires and be done with it, that would only cancel two subs out if one was reversed. Good luck.

I am pretty sure the polarity is okay (i've done it backwards before and it cancelled everything like you said). The system does it hard...its just that the subs move very little...i think there is a lot more potential that I can't get at.
Redlude97 is probably right...as much as I don't want him to be, it looks like this will be a costly fix.
How big of an amp should I be looking at? By wireing the subs together in one chanel does that give them each 350rms?? is this bad for the amp?

well.. all is not lost yet. Usually, kickers are space hungry when it comes to enclosure. I'm pretty sure there's subs out there that will work in small enclosures, not just rockford fosgate. Changing out two subs might save the rest of the system.
your amp is a mono amp running 175watts rms@4ohms, and 325watts@2ohms so make sure your two subs are wired together correctly to get 2ohms...to get the most out of your amp.
....but only you would know how loud you want it and what your looking for. Back then, I was always content with 500watts rms for my subs. But if your looking to squeeze out the most from your system, swapping out just the subs might do the trick. Especially since your trying to have the minimum amount of enclosure space.

The zenclosures box wastes alot of space. If you tore out all the back wood panels and fiberglassed it to really fit the area you could easily get 1.2-1.4 cu ft. if that isn't an option then the only subs I can recommend are the Image Dynamics ID10 V3 which can fit in boxes as small as .4 cu ft. Far from optimal but will be better sounding than the kickers. Stuff it full of polyfill also, that will get you a 2-5% more effective airspace. The amp is still going to be small though IMO. I use a 350w alpine on a single 10" and its still pretty weak. Alot of people use 500w/sub.
