Best Sub Placement

I have a 06 G35 sedan with a JL 500/1 and a JL 10W6V2 Sub in a simple sealed box. I was wondering does it make any difference in terms of volume and sound quality which way the box/sub is positioned in my trunk. Is it ok to have the sub firing backwards or should it be firing towards the passenger compartment?

usually, you want the sub firing back towards the rear of the car.

i have have a similar setup in my sedan except with a W7 in the JL ported box, i have it firing towards the trunk lid and it works just fine but i find i do have to pull down the arm rest and leave the hatch open for best results. The good thing is all you can see is the back of the box which i hopefully carpeted or something.
