coupe rear side speaker mounting depth problem...

I purchased a pair of Inifinity Kappa 62.5i to replace the rear side speakers in my coupe. As I went to install it, it appears the rear mounting depth is too shallow by about 1 inch. Those of you that have replaced the rear side speakers, how did you go about doing it?

Re: coupe rear side speaker mounting depth problem...

I ordered the same speakers...but have not received them yet.

I did read on here somewhere that it was a fixable problem. Something about using the carrage from the original speaker.

Keep looking, it is here somewhere.

Re: coupe rear side speaker mounting depth problem...

I ordered these too for the back seat side panels. My install crew said too shallow and wouldn't fit. If you tried, it would bubble out the side panel in the back seat and you would need a 1" space which is pretty big.

Suffice it to say, those 62.5 Kappas are sitting in a corner in my home office brand spanking new in the box. I went with Eclipse 6.5" 3-way speakers which fit perfectly and fill in the sound enough but not too much.

I would either return the 62.5's or sell them unfortunately. I still don't know what to do with mine.....anyone want to buy them for cheap???

Re: coupe rear side speaker mounting depth problem...

If the rear speakers are the same depth as the door speakers then we only have 2.5" to work with. (I just measured the door speaker I took out of my coupe)

Check this link, it looks like there should be enough room with a spacer but it will be tight. I guess it depends on the actual speaker you choose.

Re: coupe rear side speaker mounting depth problem...

Good info. Was going to get the Kappa 62.5, but now it looks like I'll get the REF6002SI which only needs 1 7/8" mounting depth.

Which Eclipse speaker specifically did you use? As far as I can tell, if the Eclipse fit, the 62.5i should have fit as well.

Re: coupe rear side speaker mounting depth problem...

They installed the Eclipse SE8363 Coaxial w/ super tweeter for $119. These fit fine and sound fine.

BTW, the Kappas I had that didn't fit were the 63.5i, not the 62.5i. Sorry for the confusion. So as for me, the 63.5i's didn't fit, don't know about the 62.5i's

Re: coupe rear side speaker mounting depth problem...

According to Infinity's website, the 62.5 and the 63.5 have the same mounting depth... 2-3/16.

As soon as I get mine I will go through this thoroughly and see what I can come up with.

Re: coupe rear side speaker mounting depth problem

Is there ANY difference between the depth of the rear speakers (rear seat) with the Bose system vs. non-Bose system? I'd like to get some Alpine 2 or 3-ways for the rear, but don't know if the depth is ok or not. Thanks for any input...... Bamadog

Re: coupe rear side speaker mounting depth problem

Should be no difference.

Did you mean premium vs non-premium????

Premium system only adds Bose amp and rear shelf 6x9's "subs". Other than that, the systems are completely the same including the speaker and stock Clarion deck/CD changer specs.

Re: coupe rear side speaker mounting depth problem

Yeah - prem vs non-prem... So I guess a speaker with 2.75 depth won't fit unless I remove the rear housing of the speaker for the rear seats? How about the fronts? I'm wanting to get Alpine SPR-176A components for the front and SPR 174A Coaxial 2-ways for the rear. See at

ALPINE WEBSITE (pur your cursor over the links to make speaker pictures apear to the right)

Will these work?? If they are too big for the back (housing), what should I do to fix the problem?

Thanks
Bamadog

So it's trial and error getting speakers that fit?

I am looking at some polk db650 for the rear. polk website lists the following mounting information:

Top Mount 2" (5.08cm)
Bottom Mount 2-5/16" (5.87cm)

anyone know if these will fit?

Have Boston Pros up front and the SL65's to match in the rear. They fit great, although you'll have to make your own bracket to screw them into the factory holes.
