jl 500/1 amp settings
jl 500/1 amp settings
for those of you with a jl 500/1 and a 10w7 using the factory headunit, what are your gain settins? mine is at 9 o'clock... and bast boost is +4db, center freq is 50Hz and Q is 1.1, and bass level set to 0 on my headunit... what about the rest of you guys?
have any of you here set your gains on the 500/1 using the AC voltmeter? if so where is your gain set to on the amp? i just wanna be sure my gain isnt set to high on my jl 500/1 amp...

Re: jl 500/1 amp settings
The best way to set the gains is with a voltmeter and a test tone cd. IMO, there are too many variables, including wiring, LOC, bose/non-bose, alternator and battery power variances, ohm load of sub, etc., that would make setting one's gain by another's less than adequate.
In terms of making sure that the gains aren't too high without a multimeter, put a cd in that's fairly indicative of what you normally listen to. Set the volume to around 21 or 22. Start with the gain at it's lowest setting and slowly turn it up until you hear the sub start to distort/clip. When you reach that point, turn the gain down very slightly. You're done.

The JL Audio website has a video clip/tutorial on how to set the gain properly using the volt meter and how to set your parametric EQ. It is the best way to go.
