Lightbulb All I wanted was a simple mp3cd player...

<EDIT>'04 Coupe 6spd... Sorry about that guys.

Yes, I did search: aftermarket cd player. Maybe the search query is too vague, but wth. The stickies werent much help either.

Currently, I'd like to JUST play mp3-CD's... I don't give a rats *** about SAT/SIRIUS, or whatever you people who have custom 10000 watt systems that make you go

Now, with my old car, all I had to buy was the actual mp3/cd player and the dash kit... thats about it. But with the G35, I understand that it might complicate things due to the NAV and the cd changer. (Never had to work with one of those before)

I already have my HU: Panasonic DEH 4700MP. Now what?

It would help to know what kind of car and what year. There are differences between the years.

You need to buy a single din kit. Not to be rude but singe din radios in our cars kinda look ugly. You can get a hard wired ipod interface and keep the stock radio for around 175.00.

DIN is an acronym for the roughly translated "Deutsche Institut fur Normung," a German standards and measurements organization. For our purposes, DIN simply indicates that a device complies with a generally accepted standard of dimension or configuration.

A (Single) DIN receiver, for example, is one that will fit in a dash opening having a width of 7.2 inches and a height of 2.11 inches, typically mounting with a rectangular metal bracket (DIN Sleeve) provided with the receiver.

A DD (Double) DIN receiver has twice the height of the Single DIN (7.2 inches x 4.22 inches).

^ ah... thanks for the elaborate post.

Yeah... Then I know I'm currently looking to set up a single DIN. I understand that if you do install the single DIN, you are either going to have a hole above/under the single DIN or your going to have to find a cover for it (for looks). I personally don't mind the gaping hole... I could fit my pens and such in there. =)

I was looking around Crutchfield when I came across several receivers. I clicked on the "INSTALLATION DETAILS" on alot of them, and they had the following info:

Installation Details for your 2004 G35
» Your vehicle's climate controls are part of your factory radio. We recommend that you purchase a dash adapter that accommodates your new stereo and allows the climate controls to continue working. Without this adapter, you'd have to fabricate a mounting kit, run new wires, and relocate your climate controls.
Metra OEM Adapter $179.99
» You'll lose your factory XM capability if you replace your factory radio.
» You'll lose factory SIRIUS Satellite Radio capability if you replace the factory radio.
» You'll lose the factory navigation feature if the factory radio is removed.
» The OEM integration package includes a replacement dash panel that matches your vehicle's interior.

So as I mentioned above, I can give a rats *** about SIRIUS or XM, but I do want to keep everything else functional and stock. As it mentions above, will my climate control and NAV be shot to hell because of an after market single DIN receiver?

You should just buy a double din, you can get a touch screen double din for like 300-400 bucks and it will look 100x better than a single din radio. There is a double din kit which you will need to buy to keep your climate controls and stuff which has the trim piece and the A/C controls for your car.

im on a budget, thats why. I rather prefer the looks of a SINGLE DIN and a little storage hole, than a huge screen that costs a few hundred dollars more. less labor is also a plus.

my questions still stand on post #9.
