Double din AC Controller...WHY?
Double din AC Controller...WHY?
I have a coupe without premium package, so no bose and no dual climate control.
Can somebody explain to me please, why I need the JDM AC Controller?
Is the Clarion unit controlling the AC in my car? I dont understand.
A couple of people have PM'd me asking this same question. Thanks in advance for any light on the matter.

Re: Double din AC Controller...WHY?
After further research in my ESM.... it seems to mention "A/C and Audio Controller" as one unit. THATS SO DUMBBBBB!!!!!!!
Stupid Nissan engineers, integrating the AC and Audio in 1 box, just to save 5 cents. I bet someone got a raise for that!

Re: Double din AC Controller...WHY?
Not as much as the bonus the GM engineer got for the 3800 series engine.. where you have to drop a motor mount to change the accessory drive belt.

Re: Double din AC Controller...WHY?
Hey, just had a thought .. for those without the bose premium and dual ac ... is there a dead dual ac button like the ac unit for the double din from japan? I was thinking that if it is ... then, couldn't a non-premium owner solder a dual ac button onto the board, just like the process in the DIY double din conversion to get the dual ac function.? hmmmm.

Re: Double din AC Controller...WHY?
That is not going to be enough. You will also need at a minimum to change the AC display above the clock. And probably the blower module (to get the second blower).

Re: Double din AC Controller...WHY?
yes, you need to modify the blower module in order to get DCC. The part, from what i understand, is pretty expensive.
Re: Double din AC Controller...WHY?
i dont know guys.... i was looking extensively at the ESM last night and there was no mention of dual climate control vs. single differences. Even the LED display seems to be identical.
Although i did find a really cool test feature
1) Turn on the car.
2) within 5 seconds, hold the OFF button on the AC controls for 3 seconds.
3) all of the led's on the display will turn on.
4) press UP on the temp control.
5) keep pressing it like 4 more times.
6) now press the front defrost button (may be rear i forgot)
7) if you keep pressing it, it will toggle between: ambient temp, outside temp, and air intake temp.
pretty neat huh?
Now i dont know how to exit out of this test, i just turned off the car and turned it back on to clear the test mode
P.S. you can drive while in test mode - if you want to monitor air intake temp.... haha

Re: Double din AC Controller...WHY?
heh ryoken... that sux about the 3800 v6...
thanks to those who replied. there's gotta be a way to modify the stock board, perhaps it can be mounted elsewhere and the wires extended... that will save $200!
too bad i already paid for the AC Controller from J's

Re: Double din AC Controller...WHY?
I am currently working on the stock IC board to see if you can dissect/cut the AC controller board from the radio/CD changer board. I need to take it to an electrical engineer to see if can be done. From examining it, the front side of the board looks like there is a separation of the AC from the radio which could potentially be separated. But, the back of the IC board looks more integrated and more complicated. I'll let you guys know when I find this info out.
I don't think the buttons could be extended Rambo. I thought of how to keep the stock IC board and still figure out a way to have AC buttons with control. Those little green IC controller buttons need to be depressed somehow to work the ACC. Don't know how to extend the control buttons to depress the little green buttons if they are far away.

Well, at least the non-combined controller and DIN kit is actually available for purchase. It could just remain impossible to separate them. A $400 path to a proper double din setup is much better than no path...

Re: Double din AC Controller...WHY?
yeah...but its still $400 of your hard-earned money, think of what you could spend on for $400, that's an amp or speakers or crawford plenum (minus the refund).
I think the new 2004-5 Accords have the same problem with integrated IC boards for the radio and ACC, but there are US conversions available that are easily attainable. That's what I'm told........
I think it is a conspiracy b/c of Infiniti's unfortunate contractual partnership with Bose........

Re: Double din AC Controller...WHY?
Ramboram,
The LED Displays for the prem vs non-prem ARE different. You'll notice that on the Premium (with DCC) there are 3 temps - the drive-side temp, the passenger-side temp, and the outside ambient temp. You only have 2 temps with the non-prem system... inside-temp and outside ambient-temp. I have already looked into this and it looks to be more complicated than what I had originally thought. Air ducts, blowers, new (if it fits) LED display with the corresponding circuit board to actually make the LED display work. All it takes is one more pin on the harness to really screw things up unfortunately.
I have almost resorted to the fact that if people don't like the temp I have in my car, they can get their own ride. LOL
