Audio Q RE:Stock HU

I've seen many posts related to audio changes. I have an '04 G35x sedan with premium and bose. I just sold my Saab with a Harmon Kardon system that had fantastic sound quality and loved it for over 5 years. I guess I got spoiled cause I've had the x for 5 days and hate the sound, get ringing in my ears on the AM sports channel and can't get any depth outta the FM or a CD.

My Q is this: For those that have posted with changes to their sound system and have KEPT the stock HU (which I'd prefer to do), does it produce?

Sound systems are always a case of only as good as the weakest link, is the HU good enough? I notice reception is significantly worse than the Saab was (travel the same route everyday so easy to compare) but can likely live with that (plan to add SAT as well).

Oh, and by the way, someone said you can tell if your car is prewired for SAT by looking around the drivers door posts for a label. I couldn't find anything. I'm in Canada, I know we're not supposed to subscribe up here but how can I tell if prewired?

Thanks all .... this is a fantastic board.
