Bluetooth Steering Wheel Control

Hi,

I've got an '06 coupe, with the factory bluetooth setup, and the steering wheel control for phone control (i.e. answer and hang-up phone, not to be confused with the mode button).

I'm going to be replacing my headunit with a Kenwood 8120, with built-in bluetooth, and I want to use my steering wheel control with it (so it will replace the factory setup). From what I have read, it looks like the PAC-SWI-X doesn't support steering wheel controls for handling phones.

Can anyone confirm whether or not it is possible to use the phone button on the steering wheel with an aftermarket headunit and PAC-SWI-X? If not, what do you program the phone button to do?

Thanks.

Why would you use the SWI-X? Use the SWI-JACK. It is made specifically for Kenwood and will tag into the remote wire. No need to mount an IR.

Best bet would be to call Pac. They have pretty good tech support. 800-854-3133 or 714-835-3022.

Sorry, when I wrote down SWI-X I meant 'X' to be generic. It looks like the SWI units all perform the same basic set of commands, regardless of the PS/JACK/X extension, which as you rightly noted ties into the specific brand of head unit. I tried calling PAC, but it just goes to an answering machine. I figured there's enough people who got aftermarket Bluetooth setups that they might be able to help.
