Help and opinions on existing equipment

I posted this on Myg37.com, but figured I may get more replies and opinions here.

Hey guys.

I'd like to add a little more bass (or a lot more ) to the stock system, but at a minimal cost... like less than 2-300 dollars.

I have some existing gear from earlier cars that I'd like to make work, but I need some experts to chime in.

What I have:

(1) Alpine 503 Amp. Manual in PDF

(2) JL 12W0 8-ohm. Manual in PDF

I currently have an enclosure sized for a Yukon. Obviously it won't work, but I can make another one that will fit in my car.

So my question is this: Could I feasibly use my existing components? If so, what additional equipment would need to be purchased? Wiring kit for hooking up to the battery for sure, but I'd like to keep it as simple as possible for hooking up to the sound signal. This is where I need some assistance.

Should I do one or two subs with my equipment? knowing that the subs are 8-ohms, would one really work? I'd like to have SOME room left in my trunk. lol.

I'm not trying to win any competitions or style points. I know this stuff is old, but it still works and sounds good for what I like.

Thanks in advance for the help guys!

I haven't read about anyone tapping into the G37 sound system but it's possible. Maybe the service manual will tell you where the audio signal are locate.

First Go Thru Your Manual..it Will Tell Where To Locate The Wiring System In Your Car..you Have Everything You Need Except A Perfect Enclosure, Plus You Will Only Need One Sub In The Car Two Is Over Kill..trust Me!

that amp is only 200w bridged at 4ohms.. wich would mean you have to run both subs to get to 4ohms... i would just sell the subs and get a single 10 or 12. This would be close to your budget espically if you sold your old gear.

as far as getting a signal i would i think you could use a line out converter and just tap into your rear speakers.

I'm not so sure that's true...

if you look at the specs on the side of the box in the listing you posted. that amp is only 175W @ 4ohms at 14.4V

if you look in my manual for 14.4V, it shows a few different wattages for 4ohms, max being.. 500W at 1khz. but the part where i'd be using it is 20 - 20khz, and it shows 300W max at 14.4V, so it's actually better than the amp shown in the listing.

so at 8ohm, that would be 150W, which is in the "optimum" zone in the JL manual...

IDK, i may just try to hook it all up and see how it sounds. i guess the only thing i have to lose is cost of material for a box...

not totally sure how it works when u go higher w. ohms but when you go lower some amps can't handle a 1ohm load and it will send them into protect mode.

i dont think you need 2... the only reason i have 2 is becasue i bought them used already in a box.... 2 would sound really good if you had either a 1000/1 or another 500/1. I like how mine sound but sadly my front speakers get 225 watts a peice and my subs get 250 watts, and sometimes i wish my subs were louder. But 500 watts to 1 will sound really good.
