Hardwire/mount Garmin Nuvi in dash cubby?

I have the 2003 G35 sedan (w/o factory NAV) and I am looking to hardwire and mount my Garmin Nuvi 350 inside the cubby where the factory nav would be. Has anyone done this or something similar and able to explain and show some pics?

done exactly this, it's really easy... all you need is a 12 female jack preferably with just red/black wires on the other side something like this and I got a 10amp fuse block and fuse just to be safe. Tap into the 12v jack, then simply plug in the gps, I ziptied it in so it wouldn't come out, and drilled a hole in the back of the cubby and run the cable through.

I can take pictures of the cubby, but I never took any of the install...

Hope this helps, if you need anything else lemme know

^That's how I have my Garmin installed. When I had my iPod adapter installed at Circuit City they installed a female cigarette lighter plug behind my radio, hard wired it to my radio, and simply plugged the Garmin cord in.

Don't have pics from during the install, but here are a few of the GPS in my car.

Yeah, the cubby shuts with the GPS attached, just make sure you use that 3M stuff, not Velcro brand... at least not if your in a climate where it reaches above 70 degrees outside.. the Velcro just falls off...

I velcroed the top of the GPS to the bottom of the cubby lip, and it works great. I'll shoot some pictures this afternoon and get em up here for you.

If you get the female adapter, simply cut those round leads off the end, cut both red and black wires leading to the 12v jack and get some barrel plugs, put the wires from the jack and the fuse for the adapter your going to use into one end, and then the hot wires into the other. Basically, it makes a T.

I'll get my intricate diagram making program out and make you a diagram, gimme a minute.

here ya goooo

(mspaint FTW)
All you gotta do is run down to your local radio shack, tell them you need:
2 barrel connectors that will fit 2 wires on one end, I think I used red one
1 12v female jack with leads on the other end
1 10 amp fuse holder
1 10 amp fuse

keep in mind, I'm only sure that this is true for the Nuvi, not sure what other GPS' need for fuses, most 12v adapters (chargers) say how many amps they draw (max), so just get a fuse as close to that number as possible, but make sure it is above it. e.g. if the charger says 7A, you need an 8A or higher fuse.

while you are at it, hardwiring an external antennae helps alot with reception, at least on my 750 with its sh*tty internal antennae

I never have a problem with my Nuvi 360, but I'm also from the middle of nowhere where there aren't buildings and tunnels to get in the way..

without my external antenna, my 750 takes up to 10 mins to get a signal, with the external, its down to ~2mins, still not very good compared to my old tomtom I upgraded from which took less than 1 min, but its acceptable at this point

It's ok to put the 3M stuff onto the Antenna? It Doesn't interfere?
