Gotta Love the Double Din!!

A few of you may recall my last post, I installed a ////Alpine reciver in a 2003 coupe this past sunday for a friend of mine.

This is it

Anyway after a few short days he decided he wanted to go all out and asked me to install a dual din 6.5" ////Alpine screen for him...so I did

Here is the current install looks much cleaner in my opinion.

The ////Alpine deck from the first photograph is for SALE only used for 4 days Includes Ipod connection. Msrp is $400
Selling it for $200 if anyone is intersted PM me I accept paypal.

This is now my 3rd install....I might start installing these things part-time haha....

Note: To any first time installers out there who might be wondering....Installation on these cars is not hard at all just VERY time consuming.

Actually, thats less that what those units are going for. If you check some of the forums, that w200 will go for roughly 450-500. I sold mine a month ago for that much, though I wish I hand't. I would have used it. Is he using a processor with it? If not, I highly recommend it because that HU is shit without it.

The h701 processor goes great with the unit, just need the Ai-Net and optical cable (any optical works). Tell him to get the TR-7 bypass as well if he doesnt already have it. Yes, you can have videos playing while you drive, but more importantly, it unlocks some of the features such as system settings and general settings.

Looks like he doesn't have navi either...with the w200 you can get the Blackbird I (PMD-B100) and the dock for it to control through the HU. It's a pretty decent HU. I recommend getting the update disc...it's MUCH better than the version that comes on it. I'd offer to sell my Blackbird unit and accesories. Also, if he does get the h701 and does go with the blackbird and dock, he will need the Alpine KCE-900E. The audio and video are split on the navigation to the HU, so you would only get video without that little module. Costs $85 though . Might be better off with a standalone portable GPS for the price and better quality IMO, but it's always nice to have touch screen GPS on a larger screen.

I'm wanting to go back to a w200 myself...either that or the w505. It's a good thing he didn't get the w205..the w200 has a graphic EQ, whereas the w205 does not, but if you're not using the processor then it won't matter.

Also, to change backgrounds, which is quite cool, go to http://www.pride-rock.com/forum/apnlist.php

I do have a question though...is that the trim ring from the w200 that I see around it and did you paint it to match? Also, did you use the cage it came with? When I had my Accord I didn't need the cage, and the trim ring was too big so I had to use a dremel to trim it down. Looked like crap so I took it out till I was going to fiberglass it.

wow new one looks awesome!

i really want to do something like this, but it seems that the price will end up being $7-800 by the time its done and i just cant justify it not to mention it seems it would make the car into a HUGE thief magnet

A good DD unit will cost anywhere from 500 - 1k+, depending on whether it is new or used. I wouldn't really say it's a thief magnet, they would really need to know how to take apart the bezel to get to the HU. I never had my HU taken out from my Accord, and I had left the bezel unscrewed so it literally would ahve taken only about 1 minute to get the entire HU out. The double din kit is a bit pricey as well and adds to the cost. I was considering picking up an Eclipse 6620 from a friend...he's selling it for $650..smoking deal, but I'd have no use for it now

The trim around the HU came with the whole double din set up. Bought it on ebay for $175 NEW.

I hooked up the Bypass for the Video to a switch that I placed under the DASH.

I agree this unit is a whole lot more expandable than the W205 the 505 is pretty Sweet Tho...I might install that one in my car soon.

I want the 505 so badly. It just sucks that it doesn't come with Nav. A lot of other H/U's comparable in price have nav with them.. Anybody on the forum have it installed on their car yet? Would love to see posted pics and reviews about it.. Thanks

Ok guys tell me if I got this correct. Based on responses from this post as well as others, I am of the understanding that most of these DVD units will not allow you to play vids while the car is in motion? Is that correct or am I misunderstanding something?

There are ways to bypass it. Doesn't seem too difficult for the Kenwood DNX 8120. I'm sure it will come up if you google it.

Yea I'm sure they are, or they won't be this popular. I just didn't realize that they were like that. I guess it's a liability issue for the manufacturers, much like remote start for manual transmission cars. Interesting.
