Contacted Zenrin Regarding NAV Changes
Contacted Zenrin Regarding NAV Changes
I sent the following email to Zenrin. They responded that they will pass on the suggestion to their hardware company...
"I have the Infiniti DVD Nav System. I belong to many G35 online forums and the biggest complaint about the system is the inability of the passenger to program the system while moving. Has any thought been given to adding another disclaimer regarding programming the system while moving and then allowing the feature to be bypassed so that the passenger can use it? I find it very annoying to have someone next to me who is quite capable of using the system and having to pull over to program it. Also, in the G35, when the screen is up, the dash mounted clock can't be seen. And, the only screen that shows the digital clock is the map screen. Is it possible to show the digital clock on all screens? "

Re: Contacted Zenrin Regarding NAV Changes
I don't understand what "their hardware company" has to do with it. I would think that the lockout when moving could be overridden in software, and certainly putting the clock on every screen is a software change.
(I agree with both requests, BTW.)

Re: Contacted Zenrin Regarding NAV Changes
dude thats a safety setting thats mandatory on all systems now, it is very EASY To get around it, just ground the parking brake signal wire thats coming from the nav unit....its THAT easy.

Rambo...
I've seen tons of posts regarding putting in a switch to by-pass the signal wire to the NAV. This is the first I've heard of this, grounding out the parking brake. How does that work? Also, I have a friend that just bought a Honda Accord and he said that the NAV can be programmed while moving (from the factory).

Re: Contacted Zenrin Regarding NAV Changes
The parking brake signal is NOT what the Nav uses to determine user lockout.

Re: Contacted Zenrin Regarding NAV Changes
oh yah, im sorry, i meant on all aftermarket nav's, they use the parking brake typically. But on the G it is some other wire that you have to switch, most people connect it to the trunk lockout switch in the glovebox.

Re: Contacted Zenrin Regarding NAV Changes
Honda and Acura both allow you to program while the vehicle is moving. It does give you a warning when turning the NAV system on in the Honda's about the driver not programming while the vehicle is moving. My wife owns an 04 with Nav. and it is much more user friendly than the Infiniti Nav. The touchscreen is very helpful as well. Maybe Infiniti will make an update so you can program while moving like the other manufactures.
