Smile Quick question about OEM navi

I just bought an 07 G35x here in Toronto.
I have everything except navi on it and now that my gf is finally, finally getting her license, I am pretty sure I am going to have to put one in or
become one myself. Something about paying a 4G premium for a navi from
the dealer just did not sit right with me.

Now I believe I have 2 options:

1 buy aftermarket
2 buy OEM and perform the install myself

I would much rather go with option 2, since (I believe) everything is already set-up and I have been told I need to buy the module and install it. Plus I would not have anything sticking out on top of my dash.

So my question is, since I am a newb in all of this:

Is this at all possible?
Is this the best way to go?
And approx cost if anyone have done this before?

Thanks guys

4G's.. thats ridic.. I dont think the nav is that costly in the US, btw I haven't fiddled with the '08 nav as much, but I know the '06 nav is worse than a magellan, the '08 seems better so far but truly weigh out your options and how long you are gonna keep the car etc before you put in the time and effort. As the price of portables keeps dropping it might just be easier to throw a garmin/magellan in the cup holder and drive along when its necessary.

I don't know if it is possible to install OEM navi in a non navi 07-08 sedan.

You can install a Garmin GVN 53 https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=10573 and connect it to your OEM display via the composite video input. I don't know if there is a video lockout when the car is in motion though. If there is, then you'll have to bypass that.

Otherwise, you will have to go to one of the portable GPS units.
