I just have a loaner 2004 for now with premium package.
I noticed that the radio also diplays the station name as well also the singer and song name but my 2003.5 does not.
Also the buttons for the stereo section "tape", "Sat" Disk" etc. are illuminated at night when the the headlights are on but my 2003.5 does not.

Just wondering if the above are because of the premium package or is it a difference in the year.

I have a 2003.5, It also sometimes displays the singer and song name. I think the RDS information is left up to the radio station to implement however they want so sometimes they send the singer + song, sometimes they don't.

 

funny...my 2003 Coupe shows everything on the radio, station, singer, title, etc...

 

The Bose radio includes RDS (Radio Data Server/System/whatever). That's where you're getting the station names from. The Premium Package includes the Bose, but it's possible to have the Bose without the Premium.

 

the head unit looks the same to me between the 2003.5 and 2004 except the premium shows RDS while mine base does not and i did not read anything in the manual either about it. Can you turn it off or on so maybe I had it off.

What about the missing light for the top for buttons (SAT, TAPE, AM/FM etc.) are they suppose to be lit on the base system. I would think so I will ask the dealer if ou guys are not sure

I'm not entirely sure if the base stereo has RDS or not. If you have it, you cannot turn it off. Not all radio stations broadcast RDS info, though -- you'll only get the station name or artist/title thing if the radio station is sending it.

 

I have a 2004 with the non-Bose system. The top buttons (Sat, Tape, etc) light up when the headlights are on.

 

I just got my car back and I check the RDS is not on the non-BOSE head unit (mine )

The BOSE head unit also have the button on right above the repeat button with setting for all type of music list (like TOP 40, COUNTRY, ROCK ETC.) that non-BOSE does not have.

The buttons seem to exist but functionality is diabled on the base. Anyone knows if its possibile to enable these??

That button for selection of a station by genre is part of the RDS system, so probably not.
