Stereo Malfunction

So i got in my car today and i turned the ignition on and turned the car on, i sat down started to leave and the music was playing, i had just burnt a new cd so i went to put it in, and i noticed that the music was playing but there were NO LIGHTS ON THE STEREO DISPLAY!! I started to **** my pants, i checked the light dimmer switch, but that was fine, checked all other electrical functions (wipers, lights, brakes, A/C) all worked fine. I was running late so i decided to check it out later. I figured it was just a blown fuse, i would replace it after work. So work ended and i opened the hood, but i had to run again so i just opened the battery cover to check the fuses, didnt even open the fuse box cause i was really late, closed the hood sat in car and miracously it was working again. Any ideas what this is, could it be a lose connection or lose fuse?
